“You’re missing out if you’re not watching ITV Racing Ian.”

Ordinarily, I would dispute this but, on this occasion, I think I can see where you’re coming from, Tonge.

Dettori does seem to have thrown ITV Racing something of a curve ball and I can see how many viewers might regard ITV Racing’s dilemma as payback for what viewers have had to endure all summer.

For someone who never watches ITV and / or never has the sound turned up…
You do seem to always know a lot about what’s been said and what’s happened over the year, ID.

There is a blindingly simple explanation for that, GT.

    I read TRF.

    Avidly.

And there is never any shortage of comment about ITV Racing.

I frequently feel like I’ve been forced to watch it, actually, as there’s no escaping its content here!

    FF91 – that’s just below the belt.

    I absolutely deny that!

Dettori is on ITV’s “The Opening Show” this morning. I expect heavyweight interrogation from the team.

    Not.

It will be a tricky situation for whoever the Gosdens use as their number one rider next year. I realise that on a routine basis it’s still a good job with plenty of group two and three winning opportunities but it will be a bit galling for them if when Epsom, Ascot, Goodwood and York come around the line is “Sorry, Frankie’s coming over to ride this one”!

I saw someone on RTV today say next Saturday will be “the last time Frankie rides in Britain”.

    On the Betfair Sportsbook:

Frankie Dettori to ride at Royal Ascot 2024 = 1/8.

Tbf to Dettori maybe the retirement thing got on a roll , admittedly driven by him as well then hes got to a point where it was oh **** i dont want to go , how do i reverse out of the cul de sac situation . Eventually he had to front it . It is a bit embarrassing for him I suppose but good on him following his heart .
Just next time dont do last this last that etc etc etc .
Wasnt Spenser retiring at one point , he has been seriously good form in OZ and Stateside last week or so . Love the way he rides .

Now I KNOW the media have gone overboard with this whole ‘retirement’ thing.
Headline above a piece in Sunday paper …
‘Can the sport get by without Dettori?’ :bye:
    good luck to all

“Can the sport get by without Dettori?”

National Hunt racing still seems to be getting by without McCoy, Walsh, Johnson and Geraghty.

It appears Dettori has signed up for “I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here”.

Re I’m A Celebrity, Dettori has form for this type of thing as he was on Celebrity Big Brother a decade ago. He didn’t get much public support back then, though he also didn’t do anything to attract negative attention or notoriety like John McCririck did during his stint on there.

Possibly the physical nature of the jungle will allow Dettori to shine more. If ITV are looking at making more use of him in future, then he may benefit from favourable editing.

I also seem to got through life since bbc and channel four began pretending that racing ceased to exist pretty much without itv racing.
