“So with such a person it can’t be any surprise a retirement announced at a time he was low has been somewhat changed after the year he’s had.”

That’s a fair enough point and might well be what has driven his change of heart. I just think, if his US tour doesn’t go so well, he might regret not sticking to the original plan. Always better to go out on a high imo.

He’s entitled to change his mind of course, and I have a degree of sympathy with anyone doing so when they are confronted with the reality of such a huge lifestyle change.

Just as long as we don’t have to endure the palaver of another year-long retirement tour in the future 😉

Don’t start me on this one, just don’t start me!

As long as he stays in America then fine.

But will he? Will he still come back here to ride in all the big races? What a farce.

At least we’re spared him presenting televised racing for a while

Stuart Broad and Frankie contrast the retirement announcements and “interviews”.

Broad “at the end of this series I’m retiring”.

Done dusted and finished in spectacular style.

Press “ what will you do now?”
Broad “The usual stuff, do a few interviews, but mainly say goodbye to the fans and my teammates. I might even do strictly like the other lads! I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family. It’s not all just about me.”
    Press “ nice one, thanks”.

Dettori “at the end of next season I’m retiring and to celebrate I’m going on a world tour to say goodbye to everyone.”
“ By the way, I’m auctioning off all my trophies, so I can rent my house out, because Elton told me it would be a good idea, and Netflix are going to follow me everywhere but you can as well, please. Just ask my agent for all the details.
Press “when will it all end?”.
Dettori “ when you run out of money”.

Ascot will be fawning over him as they usually do.

If I was the MD of the racecourse I’d take great pleasure in going out of my way to make sure he feels no more welcome than most tatts customers!

Let him change in a portaloo that’s done the rounds of summer festival season and turn up some portable heaters in it.

Blockade his car in for 3 hours on exiting the course.

ITV Ed didn’t seem too impressed but Weaver happily defended him, that was it with Ed basically saying that was all they were saying.

I think he will struggle in the US. Obviously not “struggle” in the usual sense but I doubt resident jockeys will welcome a gobby foreign jock rocking up and trying to poach a potential Kentucky Derby winner.

I generally score a ten on the smugometer for not watching ITV Racing at the best of times but, when someone I’m told they’ve been fawning over for an entire year does a predictable volte face as hilarious as this one, my smug score goes off the scale.

Not watching and not caring is a bit like a co-administered winter flu jab and Covid Booster – highly effective.

I don’t believe you score anything for not watching ITV unless you are self assessing yourself. I’m not sure anyone really cares, just an observation.

You’re missing out if you’re not watching ITV Racing Ian. They have no idea how to play this (aside from Weaver who saw it coming). Reckon there’s some comedy gold coming up.
