Was he ever there Corm?
April 14, 2007 at 15:05 #51586DC has loads to prove after his last two runs.
Is he simply an over hyped grey running in Rooster Booster’s colours?
Temperament also seems a problem- blinkers off today.
Distance should have been no problem today.
Perhaps he is over the top having run on flat and hurdles but doubtless the "run them once a fortnight and let them carry huge weights" brigade who post on here will disagree.
April 14, 2007 at 15:54 #51589DC has a problem between its ears.
April 14, 2007 at 16:46 #51592The owner is reportedly considering sending it novice chasing
April 14, 2007 at 17:36 #51593What does Johnson think he’s doing on Fair Along? The horse is clearly a front runner yet he insists on holding him up, he finished well enough and was giving lengths away all the way round. Shocking

Riding to orders I would imagine.
April 14, 2007 at 17:59 #51596I’ll blame Hobbs then DJ, no idea what he’s trying to do the horse has such an engine. Is he lining him up for a nice crack at next years Grand Annual?
April 14, 2007 at 18:02 #51598Yes, the strategy for Fair Along would have been decided by connections but still seems strange. They went a good pace but it wasn’t that fast and he could have been ridden much more prominently.
He didn’t jump that well today, but then Johnson found himself so far back that he was having to really boot him along rather than sit and help pick proper strides.
It was a credit to the horse that he plugged on as well as he did, but I have to feel that Fair Along needs a break and the decision to run him in the hurdle race at Cheltenham still seems pretty odd…
April 14, 2007 at 18:14 #51599I never thought he was as good as some were suggesting. I wonder is it the faster ground and also him not being able to dominate in his recent races?
Ironic some are questioning his temperment when before the Champion Hurdle many were saying he would out battle the warriors Hardy Eustace and Brave Inca.

Detroit City is a front runner. In his past two races i have seen him at the back. he used to be pushed up at the front, and making air behind.. now he is just plodding around with no energy. He needs to be at the front.
I think they have run him too often. swtiching him onto flat wasnt a good idea. I also think he prefers his blinkers on, the he can focus ahead.
Or maybe, he just doesnt like R.Johnson anymore??
Id love to see him come back to form as he was the only grey horse i had hope for! Other than Monets Garden, and the outlier… who put up a good run in the national till bucking the jockey off over the fence.. he didnt fall!
Ill continue to support DC, and hope that the team can brighten him up over the holidays.
:o
April 15, 2007 at 05:12 #51602Can’t understand the slagging of Johnson/Hobbs, there were other front runners, so unless connections wanted to get into a speed duel and compromise their horses chances, the only option in the race was to let the other front runners get on with it and pick up the pieces
Also don’t forget guys, Fair Along had two races at Cheltenham, Twist Magic fell when going well at Festival, so probably had more in locker here
Considering this and the hard season he’s had, i thought Fair Along ran a very solid race behind a fresher, progressive Chaser and disappointment of race was Don’t Push it
Looking forward to seeing these Chasers next year

April 15, 2007 at 12:59 #51603Detroit City has fallen out of love with the game. He needs a nice long break in the fields and he’ll come back better than ever next year.

Detroit City ran almost a carbon copy of his CH run, on very similar ground.
Like Beef Or Salmon, he just doesn’t have the pace to run and jump against top class opposition without the aid of softer ground. He got away with it (just) against novice opposition last season, but hasn’t the pace or skill to carry it off at the very top level without plenty of ease in the ground.
He probably wasn’t helped by the blinkers being left off either, connections seemingly thrashing about for physical excuses, rather than accepting the evidence of the form book, but they’re far from unique in that respect, are they?
Maybe a step up to 3m will help – he is certainly finished as a Champion Hurdle prospect – but there are plenty of good races to be won with him over shorter, given the right circumstances, and, assuming that he does stick to hurdling, I have little doubt he will win more than his share.
Sending him sprinting then?

April 16, 2007 at 09:50 #51606He got away with it (just) against novice opposition last season,
"just"?
He was stuffing them out of sight FFS. 5 lengths easy win of a decent trimuph hurdle i seem to recall
are you saying that finishing 50 lengths behind Arcalis after he beat Arcalis by 25 lengths at Sandown (over shorter too) is his true running?
It may be that he prefers soft but he has won well on good. Its not the reason
April 16, 2007 at 11:41 #51607Personally I think the horse is a bit of a bully who couldn;t impose himself against the class of animal in the champion and basically spat out his dummy.

Would that be the same Arcalis that was beaten out of sight by Afsoun earlier in the season, or the one 2l behind him on Saturday? Form isn’t linear, as you should well know.
I have gone into DC’s Triumph run in some detail previously, I suggest rather than using your ‘recall’ you read what the formbook says. It certainly wasn’t easy.

It might help if you’d learn to understand punctuation marks.
