Those that are suggesting other tracks in the north haven’t spotted the flaws in their plan. Newcastle’s meeting tomorrow has been abandoned because they are unraceable, and Redcar’s Saturday meeting needs to pass an inspection. It is imperative that the races are run asap, horses wil have other targets later in the season so the races cannot be held on to. The best solution is to fit them in asap to existing cards.
August 21, 2008 at 21:38 #177594Reading the thread thoroughly, I see Silvoir made it quite clear the Newbury "Ebor" was over a slightly shorter trip. I apologize for my inability to read. My excuse is I just scanned though this morning.
August 21, 2008 at 21:43 #177595On Tues when things looked dicey I e-mailed Redcar to see if there was a chance that they could grab a couple of the races if the worst came to the worst and we lost the whole meeting. They replied very quickly saying that they were very much in the loop but they were worried about their own weather situation.
In the end I presume they pulled out of the running for that reason as the early inspection planned for tomorrow means curtains for their meeting by the looks of things

However I certainly share your frustrations Yorkshire Pudding. Every year it is compulsory for me to do Cheltenham in March and York in August. For this week I got time off work, I had my tickets, I had my suits ready and I was salivating over the prospect of seeing Duke of Marmalade v New Approach in the flesh! I’ll be glued to the telly over the next couple of days and we’ll probably see some great stuff but still I just feel so empty because we lost York.
At first as I said on here I was hoping that they’d think about moving the whole meeting back a week but once again we’ve had monsoon like conditions here in North Yorks today so that would have been a no goer as well I’m sure.
August 22, 2008 at 05:39 #177620I think the decision to relocate the races shows how much more pragmatic those who run racing have become. There was a time when no effort would be made to reschedule lost races, let’s give credit where credit is due..
What is worse running a race elsewhere or losing it completely?
I would suggest the former – yes it is tough for those based "up north" who will miss out on the live action – but if the races are run then the inconvenience is a price worth paying.
As has been pointed out with the weather situation attempting to reschedule any of the races at a Northern rack would, in all probability, have been a futile exercise.
August 22, 2008 at 21:23 #177728Bollucks, The weathers beginning too level off, Haydock, Newcastle, Doncaster or Haydock could have taken that card or Weatherby at a push (albet a very large one).
Personally I would like too see the council give York a stark choice, either cough up cash, bribe a couple of group one so off another course or loose their license too serve booze for the winter they cannot do corprate events and weddings.
Simple choice, look after your home town properly rather than treat us like crap or have your winter income stream plan royally buggered up.
Right now I feel Willam Deeby ad his management team should dfo the decent thing and resign, they have forgotten their duty too their own city they have no place within it and should be bannished from it.
August 23, 2008 at 14:17 #177822I find it strange that they would rather run the races RH than stage an extra meeting on a LH course, or even just abandon the meeting.
August 23, 2008 at 14:26 #177823Duke Of Marmalade vs New Approach at Weatherby….hilarious! Great job done by the BHA and co and there are so many holes in your suggestions there is no point even mentioning them….

August 23, 2008 at 14:40 #177826On contemplation, I find it even stranger that two races where the orientation of the course makes no difference are the only two races held at a LH venue???
That is bizarre IMO.
August 24, 2008 at 20:43 #178028The BHA could not organise a pissup in a brewary ( I live near one, its not hard as he brewary has its own pub). Non of the group one races were not run under the same track conditions as York, IE a flat left handed track, thus the results are not worth the paper they are written on historical terms, the same thing when York held the Ascot meeting, the form was not worth the match too burn it with.
Its time for realitly, racing is entertainment, it relises on bums on seats as well as sponsership, your customers have or would have paid for a product, four days of racing at their local venue, IE no rail or accomadation costs at fifty pounds per day per person too get into the members enclosure or twenty five for tats. If you then ask them too go too a southern racecourse and pay for accomadation at short notice ti see an inferior card then you are living in cloud cockcoo land.
Folk have a right too ask why they should be expected too travel whne thy have paid for a product, of the do not recieve what they have paid for then they should have their money refunded or provied with a suitable replacement, spreading races around to courses miles from the orginal venue is not acceptable.
Right now theirs allot of angry people floating about up here, I would strongly suggest that York take the Londsale, that listed two yearold race and the Strenesall Stakes and hold a meeting next week, the ground will have dried out by then. A one day meeting would do wonders too help heal some of the wounds this has caused and send people into this winter lookinh forward too the new season. They could offer those with ebor tickets and anual members free entry.
What of the local owners whi have had too fork for traveling coats for their horses too the southern tracks, plus their own exstra hotel costs?
If you asked me of the St Leger meeting, the Ebor pisses all over the St Leger festival, its easier too get too for myslef peronaslly, had consistanly better qualtiy racing over the four days and its less rough.
York and the BHA have ****** up, they need too make good and quickly, as when they put prices up in the new year , their lack of make will come home too haunt them… [/i]

I wouldn’t have a problem with any LH track, end of. But wtf they ran the Gimcrack and Ebor at the only venue that suited all bar those two races is quite frankly beyond me
Newmarket would have been perfect for a big field handicap and a sprint, whilst the middle distance G1s would have been perfectly suited to Newbury’s flat LH track. I agree, they totally [expletive] up the relocation of these races. The BHA should take a long, hard look at the brains in their operation. As I see it, they are ‘little brains’. How do Goodwood and Newmarket resemble York? Goodwood?? ffs. - AuthorPosts
