I’d rather have a bad commentator than watch racing in silence. Even a commentator having an off day can at least provide a sense of exciting. Like most things in life we all prefer different things…therefore we all prefer different commentators. I certainly couldn’t do the job, I just dont have the elecution required.
September 7, 2009 at 17:00 #247724Has anyone heard the american commentator who drawls words so sloooowwwwlyyyyy when commentating. It is SO laid back, it’s hilarious. Keep your eye out on stateside for it. Actually haven’t heard him for a bit so wonder if he got the chop.

You are quite right Kauto he was Gelded in the spring,He"s back here now,
Mark Johnsons his name!September 7, 2009 at 17:49 #247732Thanks for getting back Bob, I agree with you – we all have our favourites whether it be commentating or anything else – singers, actors, you name it.
If I were to name my own three favourite current racing commentators, many of you would be astonished with the choice of at least one of them (sorry, you’ll never get me to do that though).
Pompete brought up the fact that I’ve spent a lot of my career as a radio presenter, and I realised long ago the diversity of opinion out there (I had many "appointments" with the station manager and kept the abusive letters to prove it, but for some reason he kept employing me!)
However, while it isn’t possible to please all the people all the time, I do take on board points that everyone makes (but please be gentle, even commentators have feelings…)
I’m getting off this thread now before I start to dominate it and it becomes even more off-topic!

September 8, 2009 at 18:27 #247879I find both McCririck and Matt Chapman far more irritating than Tommo
September 8, 2009 at 21:57 #247914My interest in racing has developed since my daughter decided to work in the industry. I watch it purely for pleasure so I don’t mind coming out of the closet and admitting I’m a Thommo fan
.He comes across well and from my point of view, hugely likeable – a rare thing for me in racing media types.
Right, I’ll get me coat……..
