Spotted this announcement on the Racing Admin website:
The draw for the 2024 Betfred Derby will take place on Epsom High Street on Thursday, May 30th
It will be broadcast live on Racing TV and take place as soon as possible following the closing of declarations at 10am
Connections are not be required to attend
The draw will be made by a representative of the sponsor and be supervised by an official from the BHASounds very dignified – and a prime target for demonstrators I’d have thought.
That’s exactly as it was posted, I haven’t altered the third line.
May 30, 2024 at 09:28 #1696012I assume it is one of Tom Sammes’s bright ideas, given the attached article states: “Epsom racecourse has drawn criticism from racing insiders for losing touch with its local community, and Sammes is aware that the old covenant between town and track needs rewriting, revitalising.”
May 30, 2024 at 09:59 #1696014Fingers crossed Rod Stewart has been called in to do the draw

The more I know the less I understand.
May 30, 2024 at 12:36 #1696039Apologies for the duplication but just posted this on the Derby-specific thread –
For a perfect example of how to ride the race from stall one (and in a much bigger field too) just watch the start of Roberto’s Derby in 1972 – a fantastic ride from Lester to get the position he wanted.
November 12, 2024 at 18:31 #1712513The story of the Derby Draw has made it into the new edition of the Wetherspoons magazine. Maybe Clive read about it?

The magazine informs readers “It was a great success, bringing together the pub and the town for this annual event.”
Maybe a bit generous in its assessment! I seem to recall a complete embarrassment which few of the townsfolk appeared to watch.
Luck is pictured, putting a brave face on it.
