Okay, this is how Flat Racing works from now on:
The starter has a huge screen in front of him and when every horse has entered the stalls he takes a short look to make sure no one has it’s legs on the shelf. Then he let’s them go, otherwise I’ll declare every start a (possible) false one.
June 6, 2026 at 17:07 #1768253“But if Benvenuto Cellini had finished in the places, he would’ve been declared a runner”

Exactly and he was near enough with Alderman most of the way around and that one just missed on being placed.
If Moore was that inconvenience at the start or thought it had killed his chances dead he’d should have pulled up. Horses miss the break all the time for one reason or another, this one did because he lifted his own leg up…

June 6, 2026 at 17:09 #1768254Hello Yeah He Did reared upon leaving the stalls in the 4.40, you could argue he didn’t have the run of the race as he is often up with the pace.
The more I know the less I understand.
June 6, 2026 at 17:09 #1768255What’s the point of being interested in the Derby anymore?
It used to be magical.
June 6, 2026 at 17:10 #1768256Sorry Mike 🤪
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...June 6, 2026 at 17:12 #1768257The Jockey Club have uploaded the race to Youtube minus the start LOL.
June 6, 2026 at 17:13 #1768258Didn’t Harry Angel do something similar in the stalls?

June 6, 2026 at 17:13 #1768259Nathan:
The rule was brought in after Harry Angel lost his chance in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2018 when he became upset in the starting stalls, got a hind leg trapped over the gate’s running board, and completely missed the break when the gates opened.

June 6, 2026 at 17:22 #1768261None of the Racing TV pundits realized why the claxon went on for the Stewards’ Enquiry.
June 6, 2026 at 17:31 #1768262Delighted that camelot has got his derby winner. The most gorgeous looking horse who struggled in the soft going when winning the irish derby. I hope with wootton bassett gone they will send better mares to him. The fact he was only 7/1 shows he wasnt unfancied. Ronan whelan said in his interview that wayne lordan set the fractions and he was going easily. I think the winner is a good horse but like the oaks i wouldnt bet the form will be upheld on a sound surface. Ballydoyle jockey bookings at the irish derby will be fascinating.
June 6, 2026 at 17:40 #1768264What a BS non-runner that was. I’m sorry but unless its a sprint where it does matter, or you are obviously left with no chance in a longer race, you’re a runner. Horse had every chance and was not good enough on the day be that down to conditions or just not good enough, who knows. Feel for the punters on the winner and placedd horses who weren’t antepost and get this nonsense rule 4 after the event. Ironically most of the money on Ben would have been antepost and those ones are still on a loser
June 6, 2026 at 17:42 #1768265Well to be fair to them, you would normally be looking for interference taking place in the closing stages of a race when the claxon goes off.
With regards to BC, it wouldn’t have made any difference to his finishing position as he clearly can’t handle that type of ground (which Doncaster pretty much told us last season), quite frankly I was surprised that his price didn’t take a much bigger walk in the betting much earlier given how much rain fell on watered ground.
The one that really surprised me how well he ran was James J Braddock who got in a right state in the prelims – mind clearly on other things leaving the paddock and he wasn’t much better when they got to the start either.
June 6, 2026 at 17:51 #1768266“Having got evidence from Ryan Moore that he wanted to go forward with the horse, we noted that he was very slowly into stride and was second-last shortly after the start and was really on the back foot.”
I don’t see what any of what the tactics should be to do with any of it… If they had evidence the horse was going to be held up would that have made a difference.
He was even out second last… NOT last

June 6, 2026 at 18:00 #1768267mickeyjp – I think the Oaks form has more chance of holding up as the first two were well fancied and cleared right away from the rest of the field and it was also run on much better ground than today’s race.
A soft ground Arc will see the first three home today fare better than those down the field (that clearly want better ground) considering it will inconvenience a lot more horses like last year’s Arc did but the race today was 8.15s slow and they appeared to go a pretty good gallop from the start and he (as Matt Chapman would say) travelled like a travelly thing the whole way – the Oaks by comparison was only run 4.04s slow.
Christmas Day clearly revels in attritional conditions as he won on heavy ground over a mile as a two year old – the Dante was the quickest ground he had every run on and he did underperform that day (comparatively speaking as he had won the Ballysax Stakes previously to York on good to yielding ground). You could see a heavy ground Arc holding no fears for him.
June 6, 2026 at 18:05 #1768268Let’s be brutally honest the Derby has been an also ran for years now , Royal Ascot left it in wake years ago
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
June 6, 2026 at 18:06 #1768269I think the problem for the winner regards a soft ground Arc is the French and the Germans probably have something that will love it as much
