ap frigged up bigtime, a horse has to be asked to jump or they get casual, bring back sam thomas asap
I cant see them replacing McCoy and losing face people are stubborn.
The Gold Cup is another day but I wouldn’t want be on Denman personally.
February 13, 2010 at 14:55 #276131Horse looked big in the paddock, and came right off the bridle after the cross fence. If you are going to blame anyone for the defeat, blame the trainer – he appears to have left him woefully undercooked for this.
If that’s the case then it just raises my suspicion with regards to his Kauto favouritism over Denman. When Kauto won his 2 bob re-appearance race, Nicholls jumped 6 foot in the air and there was a slight tremor(he was almost crying). Compare that to when Denman won the AON, where he looked as if he’d won a claimer at Kempton. Do you think Kauto wouldn’t have been in shape for todays race ?
February 13, 2010 at 14:55 #276132I said this would Happen
McCoy guts the 1/7 prep run on the best Jumper seen in years.
I could forgive the first mistake but the 2nd was stupidity on his part
February 13, 2010 at 14:56 #276133Denman didn’t deserve that but I’m afraid the owners most assuredly did.
February 13, 2010 at 14:57 #276135I’m not sure,I’m just not sure.
Denman looked as if he was starting to struggle when he made the first mistake, horse and jockey seemed to not agree when the question had to be asked.
I’ve loved watching AP over the years and was warming to the idea of him riding Denman, but….
If I owned the horse I’d ask Sam to get back on board for Cheltenham.
That wasn’t good. Not good at all.February 13, 2010 at 14:58 #276137It seemed a strange choice from the start, if not Sam Thomas and I’ve no idea why not, Denman needs a quiet (horseman) jockey to blend with him not get him unballanced going into a fence.
Timmy Murphy or Nina Carberry….and yes I DO know she’d never get the ride but she’d do a hell of good a job if she didFebruary 13, 2010 at 14:58 #276138Denman didn’t look fit to me today, very below par compared to his Hennessy win.
People who are saying bring Sam Thomas back, what exactly has McCoy done wrong, that Sam Thomas didn’t wrong on the horse when he fell at Aintree? ? ?
Exactly the same.
I dont think you can blame McCoy, although i do think he needs to get down to Ditcheat and get used to the horse properly before the Gold Cup.
What was McCoy meant to do, Denman wasn’t going that well today i dont think, and he did need to be pushed along at the stage McCoy did.
Nothing wrong with the ride, Denman didn’t look fit today.
February 13, 2010 at 15:00 #276140This is KARMA!!!!!!!!
And i for one am glad it happened.
February 13, 2010 at 15:01 #276141I thought the horse had enough coming round the bend to be told to push on a bit more. He kept looking behind him as if he had it sewn up. He didn’t ask the question when he should have.
February 13, 2010 at 15:01 #276142It’s about pressure, and AP doesn’t handle it very well IMO. He’s great when the pressure is off and nothing’s expected. Ruby talent devours pressure and horses respond to his touch. Ruby makes it look easy will
McCoy make s a pigs ear of them too often for me.February 13, 2010 at 15:02 #276143McCoy was on a hiding to nothing today anyway, dont personally think he got anything wrong today.
Denman didnt look fit.
February 13, 2010 at 15:03 #276145For me that was all about Niche Market today. I think both Denman & McCoy expected to be miles away by the time they got to that fence & I think that horse coming at them took them by surprise.
I think McCoy on Denman for the Gold Cup is a mistake but I couldn’t honestly point to this run as evidence.
PS I live in Manchester but I could hear the bookies cheer at Newbury from here.
February 13, 2010 at 15:03 #276146So Gaz
Are you implying that Paul Nicholls knowingly sent an unfit racehorse to Newbury?
What utter rot.
February 13, 2010 at 15:04 #276147Maybe he’ starting to suffer from his heart problem again.
He seemed to "go out"fairly quickly today, though of course that could be because he was short of peak fitness.
I found it all rather upsetting if the truth be told.
This wasn’t the Denman we’ve all loved over the years.February 13, 2010 at 15:04 #276148Even if Denman was lacking full fitness, he should still have beaten this lot senseless. He had stones in hand.

February 13, 2010 at 15:05 #276150McCoy was on a hiding to nothing today anyway, dont personally think he got anything wrong today.
Denman didnt look fit.
Denman had about twenty stone in hand today he shouldn’t have needed to be 90% fit.

Did i say that?
Did Denman today look like the horse that ran allover his rivals in the Hennessy? ? ?
