What was he thinking as he was unseated rider feet touched ground, yet he remounted Kavansky to cross the line even though in rules he wouldn’t be placed  crossed line second commentator even didn’t say a thing

From racing post the Henry de Bromhead-trained Some Song landed a dramatic opener at Down Royal on Friday after 1-3 favourite Theflyingking fell at the last and brought down his stablemate Kazansky, with both hitting a low of 1.01 in running on the Betfair Exchange.

The Gordon Elliott-trained Theflyingking was beginning to pull away from Kazansky approaching the final flight with the winner seemingly well beaten back in third, but the favourite took a chance at the last and his front legs slipped from underneath him on landing. That caused Kazansky to be badly hampered and he ejected Sam Ewing out of the saddle.

I was watching it and my immediate thought was that remounting has been banned since Sam Ewing was a babe in arms. Not very bright.

The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident in the closing stages involving Sam Ewing, rider of Kazansky, trained by Gordon Elliott, where it appeared that Sam Ewing remounted Kazansky after parting company at the last obstacle. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that it was pure instinct that caused him to panic and re-mount. He apologised profusely for his actions. Having viewed the recording and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that Sam Ewing was in breach of Rule 216.(i)(During the running of a Race a Rider who has parted company with their mount at an obstacle or at any other section of the course shall not re-mount and continue to Race) and having considered his clean record in this regard, the Raceday Stewards suspended him for one Raceday.
