A depressing week, with shadowy unnacountable banking elites ousting people’s champions all over Europe.

First we had the Greek Tragedy in Athens of a long-standing member of the Trilateral Commission (the other one) taking over as PM. Then the Trilateral Chairman gets the top job in Italy unelected and unnacountable. Finally, and most sadly of all, our very own Silvoir gets the old night of the long knives knife in the back over at Shaftebury Avenue.

THEY have obviously been cooking up a co-ordinated takeover in some smoke-filled room.

I think it’s fair to say that the lamps are going out all over Europe…….

I think it’s time for a drink in old Londinium Town. A trifecta of drowning our sorrows, continuing the yuletide tradition of these meet-ups and planning the fightback. Who’s with me?

    ‘shadowy unnacountable banking elites’

Is this another way of saying the Germans and the E.U?

    Okey Dokey folks.

Me and Corm put up threads about Londinium drinks at the same time, so let’s have two drinks for the price of one.

    Dec 21st:

I’ll do my best to make this one, though I have to play Santa Claus to a group of toddlers on the morning of the 22nd.

    Dec wheneever’s best

The meeting down at the docks.

Express your interest, and prefered date for the latter, below. I

    I believe that

    Gamble

lives in the smoke, but never goes to these meetups. Any of you guys met him?

    Just out of interest.

Sadly can’t make the 21st but any night before then in December should be good for me. How about 12th or 13th December?

They’re Monday and Tuesday two weeks from now.

Tried to make last years though thwarted by snow in the end.

Either the 12th or 13th suits me.

I’ll have to check with my mate Paul to see if he’s free on either date. I know his diary gets very clogged with charity dinners with Judith Chalmers et al at this time of year….

Are those dates good for anyone else?

Glenn – given my unemployed status both of those dates are good, but will depend on wellness of young ones, who both have rotten colds at the moment.

If you pick somewhere nice I’ll see if Judith will come along too.

Nice to see the brotherhood enjoying the season.Perhaps we could set up a XMAS fund for those out of work? Skip a bet for Christmas? Or place a bet for them? Whatever.Count me in.

    That could be fun :)

I’m guessing from the silence that nobody has met Mr.Shy. Probably for the best. We know what they say about meeting ones heroes.

IIRC Glenn reported here on TRF that he and Gamble met in the sewers beneath a large blue building in Hammersmith armed with X-Ray specs and state-of-the-art bugging devices. I suspect The Third Man was Ricky ‘Robin’ Lake, waiting at the wheel of the Mark 1 Batmobile with Paul Struthers bound to the running boards, gagged

    Enjoy your kronies cronies :)

I have indeed shared a jug or two in Londinium with Gamble in the past.

The last time I contacted him he was busy on the home front, but I’ll see if he’s free for this gathering.

I have left the smoke behind
    and so am a rag
    to make this bleak gathering
    of men whose heads
    still attached
    do doff their froth
    to those whose tongues
    will never again
feel the rim of a glass
    unless in imagination
    and then colourfully stained
    by St Nicholas
    in a dank place where
    elevenses bereft
    of cream or caffeine
    offer endless chanting
in a crypt with no buzz
but that of a passing dog
collar to stir up the dust
    of a life gone by.

I have barely got over Winkleman’s death
and now this…Lake enters with a plate
    of rare Pinza !

I have a pair of black rubber gloves
that I wear often. They slip off
easily too but I do believe
they have made me ever so morbid

Much as I’d love to get together again. I’m either booked up or in the wrong place on many of the days leading up to Christmas….but have a great evening if it comes off.

If anyone wants to catch up with me, the only times I’d really be free are :
Late afternoon/evening on Thur 8th, I’m sort of tied up at a lunch at the Chring Cross Hotel dinnertime, but we normally de-camp to the Coal Hole in the Strand afterwards. Could catch up with people there, & possibly go on somewhere after.

    or on Tues 20th.

A favourite watering hole of mine Colin particularly after a superb evening meal at Rules, yes you cant beat a bit of lead shot stuck between your teeth when you order the Grouse!
