February 19, 2009 at 01:44 #211000Charmer, Petoski both fit the 7 letter rule. They’re the two I recall.

As for Ashleybank – they used to seem to clean up at Ayr and Carlisle in recent years but got mullered when coming down south. Have fond memories of Stamparland Hill, Brooklyn Breeze in the not too distant past!

Mystiko, Nemesia, I think Niniski and Bustino were both the dowager’s as well but that’s before my time. There must have been exceptions Minster Son was one of hers.

Petoskis two "Henchmen" Boldden (7) and Vouchsafe (9) show some of the Beaverbrook horses had 7 letters some didn"t!
September 13, 2010 at 08:32 #317307David Stevenson kindly gifted me Skippers Cleuch and Brooklyn Breeze when they both retired from racing. They are doing brilliantly and Skippers has proved to be quite a decent event horse, with Brooklyn hopefully following in his footsteps next season.
We stay just a couple of miles from their former home and they often gaze across the fields onto Hetland Hill…..
Two of the most handsome, genuine horses I’ve had the pleasure of owning and David often e-mails to ask after them. A very generous man indeed.

Cheers,

September 14, 2010 at 17:37 #317528Hi All
Regarding who rode Randolph Place and who was Mr Richards stable jockey – everyone is correct really, and Spitfire is right on the money.
Neale Doughty was stable jockey from 1982 – 86, Phil Tuck from 86-88, and then Doughty again from 88-94.
Mr Richards always had top jockeys , including developing 2 champions, namely Ron Barry and Jonjo O’Neill. Other top riders were Tony Dobbin and David Goulding (the best NH hold up rider I have ever seen).
To return to Randolph Place, I think that Tuck rode him as a novice chaser, including when he was tanking along when coming down 2 or 3 fences out in the Arkle. But Randolph Place was both pre and post TuckSeptember 14, 2010 at 18:01 #317529When we were in Northumberland last week I got talking to someone in Beadnell who pointed to a large house and row of cottages; he told me that the cottages used to be stables. I believe that Gordon Richards trained there for a while. Took some photos, but useless at putting them on here. Must have been wonderful training the horses on the beach.
