Intereting to hear what Simon Clare of Corals said on RUK about Tom Scudamore telling him that the horses this weekend ran as if in need of the race.
Scudamore as been also quoted as saying that he thought Kings Palace was the winner at the top of the hill but did not get home and the same with Un Pour Du Temps
I always thought Pipe was the master of getting them right first time up if needed.
Disapppointing all the same as I thought Kings Palace was a good thing. Maybe in time I will be proved right.November 15, 2015 at 18:12 #1221893I agree. Kings Palace travelled brilliantly but ended up looking a non Stayer, which he blatantly isn’t. The mare also travelled great before fading to nothing, sorry the name escapes me.
Fear not regarding Kings Palace, Long Run got stuffed off 158 in the PP and ended up having a reasonable season…
BUY THE SUN
November 15, 2015 at 19:05 #1221901Kings Palace may have been short of fitness but he has checked out far too many times when not being able to boss small fields to be a coincidence.
Un Temps Pour Tout, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt re fitness but he also came with a big rep and fluffed his lines in the Stayers Hurdle last year – also looking at his best runs they all appear to be on soft or heavy ground so that could be an issue at the Festival.
November 15, 2015 at 19:51 #1221906There was much confidence behind Champers on Ice, too, who found disappointingly little. With horses travelling well, then folding under pressure, there’s a fair chance there’s a bug in the yard
November 15, 2015 at 22:32 #1221922Have to agree that ‘horse beaten through lack of fitness’ is never a sentence I thought I would ever hear combined with the name Pipe.
I would have thought that with all the cutting edge processes (like blood testing etc) that his father pioneered back in the day, David would be on the ball in regards to testing his horses for viruses and all.
November 16, 2015 at 00:16 #1221930David Pipe-trained horses travelling well before finding zilch was a common theme over the three days.
Add ‘Batavir’ to the already growing list on this thread. Look at it this way – there will be a number of well handicapped horses for the future that have represented Pond House this weekend

This guy is a machine. All he does is work out and pick winners. Talk about fit. You should see him without his shirt off, serious side of beef.

Spot on Joe.
Over the last month it’s been pretty poor, thought there were some signs of a return to form with a couple of wins and places in the week prior to the Paddy Power Festival, but it’s now those 2 wins in Pipe’s last 57 runners if memory seves. Not the strike rate you’d expect. The Robin is right, keep an eye on those who’ve run just reasonably well this last few days once the yard is back in form. Although Kings Palace often travels well and found nothing in competitive races. Sights should be lowered to a small field race he can dominate from the front.
Value Is EverythingNovember 17, 2015 at 01:20 #1222002It can turn round quickly and probably will but I think he must be concerned. Getting horses well handicapped is fine but I thought that would benefit McCain eventually and he seems in sad decline. Roger Brookhouse has had a clearout from Tom George and David never sounds that confident he`ll be getting the Brookhouse horses again for a new season
November 17, 2015 at 21:19 #1222099Katkeau won today so maybe a corner has been turned ?
November 22, 2015 at 15:30 #1222819Stable is still in very poor form. But expect them to bounce back very soon, though some of them (Dynaste or Ballynagour) ran too badly even on their 2nd start.
November 22, 2015 at 20:52 #1222860Indeed but the his Vieux Lion Rouge won the last.
Strange I wonder if he as 2 yards, one running well one not so wellNovember 27, 2015 at 23:25 #12235443 winners from 40 runners over the last two weeks, with no obvious signs of improvement. What’s going on there?
November 28, 2015 at 09:35 #1223582Difficult to say as they are running OK but just not getting home, however Champers on Ice did yesterday
