Pardon me for the selfish nature of the post but I need some info that I’ve never required before. I placed a bet in the Epsom Derby this morning on a beast which, it turns out has not appeared in the declarations. Obviously if it was still in the race before I placed the bet I’ve done my money, but as the declarations were updated today, where can I find out the date and time of specific scratchings from the race. As in many things, timing is of the essence!
Many thanks.May 21, 2014 at 20:37 #479706Unfortunately there is a supplementary entry stage on June 2nd so in effect any 3 year old can still run in the race whether entered originally or not.
A horse could be entered for the race, withdrawn and then entered again at the supplementary stage which is what happened with Kris Kin when he won the race.
So bad news I’m afraid unless you have a "generous" bookmaker.
May 22, 2014 at 10:38 #479744The original nominations were on either December 4th 2012 or April 8th 2014.
There was a scratching stage on March 4th and another one on May 20th. Noon for all these dates.
Next stage is June 2nd when you can supplement or "confirm" original nominations. Declaration to run is 10am June 5th.
What was the horse?
May 22, 2014 at 11:44 #479749Thanks chaps. Not the info I wanted to hear but it’s all (good) experience. The horse was Gallante, and the bet was timed at 1117 so I’m out on any account.
Is 1200 a fixed time for ‘declarations’? For some reason I thought it was earlier. Or does it vary day by day/race by race? Not knowing makes me feel quite ignorant of a sport I thought I knew pretty well!
May 22, 2014 at 13:09 #479757The final declarations made 48hrs before the race have a 10am deadline.
All other entry and declaration stages have a midday deadline.
Mainly I suspect in order to smooth the workload at Weatherbys, based on the fact that pre internet, all these transactions were conducted over the phone.
May 24, 2014 at 20:00 #480088The official scratch time for all early closing races is noon as AP says.
However some trainers can scratch horses well in advance, especially if injured/dead. Zoustar, for example, has already been taken out of all his engagements at Royal Ascot/Newmarket.
If it is sizeable bet you could call Weatherbys to check when exactly it was withdrawn.
