Hopefully it’s a foregone conclusion and Brian Meehan has got it right.
The Derby needs some sparkle in it as up to now nothing has really caught the imagination.
Many people on here were of the opinion this could be a pretty ordinary year and so far it has been.
Crowded House hopefully will change that. His win in the racing Post last year at least had a bit of excitement about it. Hopefully he can beat this lot just as easily.
However this lot as I put it are no slouches and he’s a pretty stingy price so until I know what runs there will be no bet for me.
May 10, 2009 at 22:37 #226746pretty ordinary year/this lot are no slouches?am I missing something Sea the Stars, Fame and Glory,Crowded House. Certainly no slouches. But pretty ordinary I don’t think so.
May 10, 2009 at 22:47 #226750I agree with 6/4 being a little bit skinny. Don’t know if i’ll touch it myself. There looks to be one or two handy types in this race.
May 10, 2009 at 22:57 #226752Sans Frontieres interests me.
May 10, 2009 at 23:13 #226758I like Crowded House but at these prices Nehaam is of definite interest. He travelled very well last time out at Newmarket and had had a training setback so should come on for that run. The form’s taken one or two knocks, mind.
May 10, 2009 at 23:38 #226773Can’t help but feel Malibu Bay is priced up as if Bookies think he wont be turning up.
It would be Crowded House for me but at 6/4 I wont be backing him. I’ll be hoping he hacks up though considering he’s my antepost selection for the Derby.
Whatever AOB sends here will be interesting. If Black Bear Island turns up and gets a decent passage he could have a great chance. The same goes for Sans Frontieres who looked like a Derby horse in the making when running on behind Delegator.
It’s a very open race this year. One of the best for years
May 11, 2009 at 01:13 #226807I looked at Sans Frontiere’s first race on Jeremy Nosedas website, and he was very brave; the stable seem to think a lot of him and there’s a bit of money going on him for the Dante.
May 11, 2009 at 01:16 #226808Think I heard somewhere that Kinane is coming over to ride him too. Thats got to be an interesting jockey booking.
May 11, 2009 at 11:23 #226864I like Black Bear Island a lot, (11/2m) i respect Crowded house as he demolished the Racing post trophy field, Freemantle has good form but wont get the Derby trip should he win this, but i kind of expect Crowded to go "Whoosh"!!

Maybe you should start thinking then

Come on then Andy you tell us which one of these wonder horses is the new Nijinsky, Sir Ivor, Shergar, Dancing Brave, Sea Bird II etc.? Do you really think we have seen the new Brigadier Gerard and Mill Reef in the guineas?
I am damn sure we didn’t so and if you think we did then you’re in a dream world.
You just mentioned 3 horses and if you ran a poll on which was best it would damn near a 3 way split. Plus there’s a very good chance none of those will even win the Derby.
If one of them does win doing handstands that would change things but if there’s a superstar out there heis making a very good job of hiding it.
BTE When I say thse horse that are taking on Crowded House are no slouches it means they are not horses that lie down easily. Nothing more!
May 11, 2009 at 14:42 #226897well fist,
I agree with you if the horses you mentioned are the standard for an extra ordinary year. (all were super stars) If any were as good as New Approach I would settle for that and I think there are at least three who would qualify but lets wait until the derby to make a decision on this side of the pond.No slouches are good enough for me! I don’t believe we have seen the best of Oxx or Bolger from Ireland ,and the French come later. The Kentucky Oaks and Derby were both won by National Hunt distances and there is a long way to go to the BC.May 11, 2009 at 18:32 #226949

I wish New Approach was running it would make life a lot easier

I really hope something comes out of the Dante that makes us all sit up and pay attention.
Kite Wood bought by Godolphin by around 6 million pounds is a horse there is a lot to like about.
He was ridden up with the pace in all 3 races last season 2 of them being over a mile. That could be a pointer to him wanting further.
It will be very interesting to see how he is ridden on Thursday. They certainly never got to the bottom of him in the two races he won.
If ridden from the front he will ensure a good gallop and I am sure he will give Crowded House a real rest.
If he is held up over this longer trips there could be some fire works in the latter stages.
I have already backed Crowded House 6/4 for this and for the Derby at 6/1 in the hope he wins this impressively but this Kite Wood is a really nice horse and could be anything.
I’m scouting about to get the best price available for Kite Wood 6/1 and 16/1 for the double and will be having a bet on that also.
I could see one of the two winnig this easily and turning the Derby betting on it’s head again.
We live in hope

Rip Van Winkle is a sprinter (by Galileo), Freemantle wont get the Derby (half brother to a 10furlong winner and by Galileo)…..how exactly do you study pedigrees?
