Hopefully Mr. Appleby will let ANCIENT WISDOM take his chance but if it does dry out too much then rule 4 gonna be smelly.
I’ll take a chance on AL MUSMAK staying the trip, he was ahead of the Godolphin colt in that hot 7f race at Ascot last year won by Rosallion. The drier the better for him but there is rain around albeit not expected to be heavy or persistent.

    4/1

Other than the favourite, who on the basis of current results, I couldn’t back, this looks like another rag bag collection. If you have horses by Night Of Thunder in Derby trials surely we are looking at hit and hope jobs, and they are at the front end of the market. Even the second favourite is from a family of sprinters. If Buick has any sense, he will just get on the front end and run these into the ground.

The Dante is one of my favourite races but I can’t get excited by this renewal so will just be watching.

7/1 gods window without the fav & al musmak, think the price is just wrong, only has caviar heights to beat imo, the rest are poor

I suppose we will find out about 3.50, but I can’t see why Ancient Wisdom isn’t odds on. Instead bookmakers are out to get him, and he is heading towards 2/1. The market is suggesting yet another favourite is going bomb out.

Caviar Heights w/o Ancient Wisdom 2-1 is my pick.

The ground not being softer would be why he’s so big Stilvi

When I backed him for the derby I was expecting it to be good to soft or worse but york must’ve missed a lot of the rain

Hopefully he will just outclass them anyway

I don’t know where the soft ground idea is coming from.

At two, he won (easily) on much quicker ground, and wasn’t impressive on heavy ground. The dam won a Group 3 on good ground, and the full brother won in Meydan on good ground. All that would suggest that today’s ground shouldn’t be an excuse.

He has a rounded knee action

Both his group 3 and group 1 wins at 2 were on softer ground

He did win on good or better but only in novice stakes races

Hopefully for my antepost bets sake you are correct

Has a rounded knee action, but has won well on good, the ground at newmarket in october was listed as soft, but the time suggests it wasnt that soft either

Good ground should be fine, surprised hes come out to 15/8

The Ground at Newmarket was certainly not proper “SOFT” ham. Times at Newmarket can be greatly influenced by wind direction and speed. So whether it was proper GOOD there or GOOD-SOFT…

But either way, although the question of whether AW will be as effective on today’s ground is a fair one… The market has probably overdone the chance of AW being less effective on it.

Ancient Wisdom certainly does not need Soft / heavy to produce his best. Good-soft will be fine and there is quite a large possibility (if not probability) GOOD ground will be ok. He may well be effective enough on it to beat these.

True ginge regarding wind speed etc, id agree,

i wasnt expecting him to come out to 2/1, hadnt gave such a drift a thought, if anything i thought he’d be evs at best

As stilvi has alluded too, theres rags in this at short prices, none of which would have a prayer in the derby, if AW cannot dispose of this lot, there wont be a derby winner amongst it

Ill need to be backing him at 3s or 2/1 now, hes just too big to let it go now

Agree with the price being big enough now to Ancient Wisdom
