I can understand your point of view. If I had been completely convinced by Al Kazeem’s dominance I guess any other result would seem unfair to me too.
Having watched the race a few times more I don’t really think the winning jockey carved Mukhadram up intentionally -he had his whip in the correct hand and looked like going clear enough to take his opponents ground- the horse just drifted to the rail a bit. So if I’m understanding you correctly he would likely have kept the race under the old rules too. As I said though -and I accept it is entirely a minority view- I felt that Mukhadram might well get back into contention. His jockey did have to pull his nose up sharply when crossed by the winner which suggested to me that he was still keeping tabs on AK.
It wasn’t really a big deal to me either way tbh. I never had a bet in the race and was more interested in Mars’s performance as I’d tipped him in the Ante Post comp.

Hammy, under the old rules it is almost certain that Al Kazeem would have been placed third because, although he didn’t cause enough interference to improve his own position, it was enough to cost the other horse a place. I backed a horse of Luca Cumani’s called Knockando back in the late eighties and he was first past the post in the Magnet Cup but caused a tiny bit of interference along the way. There was a photo for second and I knew that if the horse who was interfered with kept second place I would be OK, but it turned out that it was a dead-heat for second and therefore the tiny amount of interference had cost the horse outright second place and I instantly knew my horse would be demoted. That is as good an example as I can give of a race where the clear winner on merit was denied by a system that was weighted towards doing the "right thing" in stiff-upper lip, what-ho, fair play chaps type way. In reality it meant the best horse didn’t win, the horse who would have been second ended up with half of first place and the horse who would have been third ended up with half of first place. Still unsatisfactory in my mind but perhaps some sticklers slept easier in their beds that night, knowing that "justice" had been done and that everyone had had a fair crack of the cake and a fair slice of the whip

Case closed M’Lud
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
July 11, 2013 at 10:27 #445378Did anyone see the 9.00 at Naas yesterday, looked to me far much worse than the Eclispe race with Carroll on Dr Funkenstien with whip in wrong hand cutting right across the Bolger horse forcing Manning to pull his horse up very sharply stopping all momentum. Does anyone know if Carroll received any ban for this?
edit – swapped Carroll for Lyons, Lyons is the trainer…..

July 12, 2013 at 14:51 #445483Since the stewards decide which horse deserved to win no need to have the actual races any more just have the stewards post the putative results. That should please those who do not believe in racing by the rules! The "best " horse will always win.
