Dancing Brave was before RacingPost’s online records so I had to scour the internet instead. I’m sure the races, especially the 2000 Guineas are not complete so if anyone knows of any other Group/Grade 1 winners beaten by the Brave in the races below, please let me know :)

    2000 Guineas (1986)
Green Desert- July Cup (1986), Haydock Sprint Cup (1986)
    Huntingdale- Dewhurst Stakes (1985)
    Tate Gallery- National Stakes (1985)
Sure Blade- St James’s Palace Stakes (1986), Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (1986)

    Eclipse Stales (1986)
Triptych- Prix Marcel Boussac (1984), Irish 2000 Guineas (1985), Champion Stakes (1986), Prix Ganay (1987), Coronation Cup (1987), International Stakes (1987), Irish Champion Stakes (1987), Champion Stakes (1987), Coronation Cup (1988)
    Teleprompter- Arlington Million (1985)

King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (1986)
    Shardari- International Stakes (1986)
Triptych- Prix Marcel Boussac (1984), Irish 2000 Guineas (1985), Champion Stakes (1986), Prix Ganay (1987), Coronation Cup (1987), International Stakes (1987), Irish Champion Stakes (1987), Champion Stakes (1987), Coronation Cup (1988)
Shahrastani- Epsom Derby (1986), Irish Derby (1986)
Petoski- King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (1985)

Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (1986)
Bering- Prix du Jockey Club (1986)
Shahrastani- Epsom Derby (1986), Irish Derby (1986)
Triptych- Prix Marcel Boussac (1984), Irish 2000 Guineas (1985), Champion Stakes (1986), Prix Ganay (1987), Coronation Cup (1987), International Stakes (1987), Irish Champion Stakes (1987), Champion Stakes (1987), Coronation Cup (1988)
    Shardari- International Stakes (1986)
    Darara- Prix Vermeille (1986)
Acatenango- Deutsches Derby (1985), Rheinland-Pokal (1985), Deutschland-Preis (1986), Grand Prix de Saint Cloud (1986), Rheinland-Pokal (1986), Grosser Preis von Baden (1986), Grosser Preis von Baden (1987)

Also, the order of finishing horses may not always be correct so apologies. Should also be noted that it isn’t easy to compare these findings to that of a modern horse, as many races won by the defeated horses have now been upgraded to Group 1 status.

Aw man what are trying to do to me? Also pre RP so an Internet search calls again. Probably won’t be completely accurate but I’ll do my best!

Just done a scant check, and the only addition for the 2000 Guineas I came across was that Tate Gallery won the National Stakes (Ire).

I wouldn’t say that, there are far more Group 1s for STS’ vanquished to win in his absence. Also DB came up against some really good horses in his various races… Green Desert in the Guineas, a champion sprinter outpaced by a middle distance horse. Shahrastani… a duel Derby winner and rated 135 by Timeform. Triptych… very consistent top class mare for several seasons. Bering… previously undefeated and considered the best French horse in years. Acatenango… German champion who won loads of Group 1s.

All in all a pretty decent bunch. I think maybe STS beat a lot more winners of one or two Group 1 races, but came up against fewer comparable horses.

Both great horses. I think both would have coped with each others opponents. However, if you’re a time man ( or woman  ), Sea The Stars would most definitely get the nod.

Not in the Guineas, the Brave would have sprinted past Sea the stars on Good ground, the ground at Newmarket was on the soft side of good when Dancing Brave won!
