The Racing Post has just tweeted:
BREAKING NEWS: Cue Card will miss the Cheltenham Festival, trainer Colin Tizzard has revealed to the Racing Post.
Desperate news. As exciting as these few weeks are, there’s always a series of hammer blows and there couldn’t have been many bigger in Sprinter Sacre and Cue Card.
February 25, 2014 at 11:18 #469133RP:
Tizzard said: "He has not been quite right behind for a week and the decision has been made this morning that he will not run at Cheltenham"
February 25, 2014 at 11:21 #469135Saw Tizzard interviewed either yesterday or the day before. Didn’t mention any problems at all.
February 25, 2014 at 11:48 #469142So much for wrapping in cotton wool for 10 weeks! Shame they didn’t follow the same route as last year and taken in the ascot chase.
Must be a hell of a disappointment but there’s always aintree but less hope there’s no more big names dropping outFebruary 25, 2014 at 12:21 #469146I doubt we’ll see the same accusations aimed at Tizzard as those aimed at Henderson on here…
Might have tweaked something at Kempton that has been aggravated
A bad couple of days for the festival.
February 25, 2014 at 12:25 #469147Tizzard yard had a virus at Christmas. If Cue Card ran with it he’d have taken time to recover. Not suprising they decided to miss the Ascot chase R&S.
Now the two best Timeform rated horses are out of Cheltenham.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 25, 2014 at 12:38 #469148Awful news. Be interested to see where they aimed him at Aintree if he ran. Would they go for the Bowl or the Melling?
Would have gave him a few more days off and sent him to Punchestown personally if I were to run him at all again this season.
February 25, 2014 at 20:17 #469201Very disappointing news. Not sure if Cue Card was being aimed at the Gold Cup or not but his defection reduces the quality of the race.
February 25, 2014 at 22:25 #469236This is why punters should be only punting with firms who are NRNB or NRFB. High street chains robbing punters blind.

Spot on. I’m disappointed, as I’d backed CC for the Gold Cup at 25s and for the QM at 16s, but both with Victor, so at least I can move those bets to other horses.
Betvictor was offering NRFB from right after last year’s Festival – tremendous value for us long rangers.
As to my favourite horse, Cue Card, he owes me nothing and I hope it is just a muscle problem. Anything to do with tendons/ligaments, I prefer to leave such horses alone after suffering setbacks with legs. But he’s been tough, sound and reliable so far. Let’s hope he bounces back quickly.

Tough one for you Joe, here’s hoping he comes back in the same form.
Thanks, mate

It might be if you are lucky enough not to have had your account closed. Something that appears to happen all too readily with this firm.
February 26, 2014 at 16:34 #469305Well, I’m obviously not considered shrewd enough. Or perhaps they profile long range ante post punters differently. I’ve done all right out of my bets with them, and there’s never been a suggestion of a restriction.
February 26, 2014 at 16:45 #469306Trying to look on the positive side of this [also very fond of the horse]. Sometimes, in racing fate takes a hand, sometimes [alas not always] to the good. I’m thinking about when See More Business got carried out and injured in a [Cheltenham?] race but came back better and stronger
. I don’t want Cue Card to be a ‘nearly’ horse.

Not so sure it is that. I was closed making a loss. Slipped under the radar maybe?

I think they all use software now and if you are following certain patterns – beating SP with morning prices consistently, betting for EW value etc, that primes the warning system.
I’ve a feeling they don’t have a protocol for long range ante post punters, where 90% of my betting is done, so you might well be right – under the radar for the moment.

VC closed my account but I was making a profit. Got no gripe with that, up to them.
Another bookmaker who closed my account had a bookies rep I talked to (he’s not at the firm now). I asked why bookmakers close accounts? He told me it does not matter whether a punter is in profit or not. They look in to closing accounts when the
average price
taken beats SP by more than 20%. If so they know which way the account will go in future even if not in profit at the time.
Do you think that is what might have happpened to you Stilvi?
