Does anybody know if early odds for the Coventry Stakes are available anywhere? Nothing on Betfair at the moment.
May 20, 2008 at 16:47 #164567I’m not aware of any markets for the Coventry, but the ante-post section of Oddschecker.com is your best bet.
May 20, 2008 at 18:15 #164589Tell you when I’ve got the money on.
Let’s just say I’ve seen the winner.
May 20, 2008 at 18:26 #164591There are no prices available for the Coventry as yet, according to Oddschecker at least, but if Orizaba goes for the Norfolk (as I hope he will) then the race is best left to Prolific and Zezao.

Mastercraftsman 10
Awinnersgame 10
Cerito 14
Lord shanakill 14May 20, 2008 at 18:40 #164593I’d be amazed if Channon dropped Orizaba back to 5f after the horse won so well over 6f on his debut. Brian Smart looks to be have plenty of nice juveniles this year and without wishing to second guess what goes where, I’ll be keeping an eye on Go Nani Go (enetered in the minor event at Pontefract that Hellvelyn won before the Coventry) and Spin Cycle who clocked something of sonic boom at Hamilton on Friday night.
May 20, 2008 at 21:36 #164609Was very impressed with Spin Cycle myself David. The thing I missed that night though was the times of the later races, was it a generally fast night all round as far as times go, or was Spin Cycle that good?
I remember them saying just after the race that it ran just a fraction outside a 30 odd year course record and that was without the jockey having to ask any serious questions.
Thought the horse was mightily impressive, especially at the business end of the race.
May 20, 2008 at 22:51 #164612The times were generally fast, including a course record in the listed race won by Captain Webb, but even taking that into account, it was a listed race time with the promise of more to come.

I can’t access the Cashmans site at the mo – work website restrictions. Will look later.
Re. Spin Cycle, going well into the firm category at Hamilton, no suggestion of wind-enhanced times. A respectable time / form rating comparison & given the style of his win, you’d have to think that there’s more in the locker. Slightly worrying that he got into a tizz on his debut at Thirsk – don’t know how bad that was.
May 22, 2008 at 03:29 #164774We have yet to see the Coventry Stakes winner even run!

His name? SEA OF MARMARA trained by Aidan O’Brien. Been working the house down at Ballydoyle and due to make his debut on Sunday at the Curragh. As I said, word is he is a very good horse.
May 22, 2008 at 08:11 #164796Is it possible to compare what Sea Of Marmara is doing in the AM to It Must Be Magic?

Should make the market nicely
June 4, 2008 at 00:01 #166274SEA OF MARMARA[/color:u5swbw2r] makes his debut in the 6.30 at Leopardstown today and I will be very surprised and bitterly disappointed if he weren’t to win it.
June 4, 2008 at 00:12 #166277Howard Johnson, fresh from two weeks alone with Graham Wylie’s cheque book (the money he spent recently went beyond ridiculous), looked to have a nice winner at Carlisle on Monday – five furlongs obviously wouldn’t be a problem, but the step up to six would surely bring about masses of improvement.
I noticed that Orizaba was purchased for a ‘private sum’ by Sheikh Moahmmed’s son this afternoon – how irritating.

Very boring and this is another example of there tiresome scattergun, throw money at anything that wins method.June 4, 2008 at 05:45 #166290I noticed that Orizaba was purchased for a ‘private sum’ by Sheikh Moahmmed’s son this afternoon – how irritating.
Hopefully Frankie will be onboard at Ascot to attract the ‘mug’ money. Not a particularly well-bred animal and it will be interesting to see if the Newbury performance was a one-off.
June 4, 2008 at 08:06 #166301I would struggle to be more impressed by South Central (the Howard Johnson horse mentioned by LGR), and he does look as though the 6f of the Coventry will be right up his street. The time compared favourably with others at the meeting as well, very favourably if you consider Winston eased him right down in the last 75 yards.
