Why the massive drift???
If he was working as you say I was expecting a massive odds on shot
June 4, 2008 at 16:12 #166394We’ve had a day of fairly steady but not significantly heavy rain in and around Dublin today. Doubt the ground will be Gd/Fm anyway. Probably Gd.
Don’t know if that’s contributed to the drift though.
June 4, 2008 at 18:10 #166413What i want to know is when the stalls open for the 1st race will a ROAR erupt from the crowd like they do for the Supreme Novices or will a muted silence be the order of the day.
June 4, 2008 at 19:03 #166430Ground the reason for the defeat? Very weak in the market by the look of it.
June 4, 2008 at 21:03 #166446Totally dumfounded a peed off at this. I was told in early April this horse was flying at home and was the closest thing to a Coventry horse Ballydoyle have. Now unless he suddenly went bananas in that time period, then I am dumbstruck by this performance.
I got on nice and early at 7/2 and think that could turn out to be a good price and low and behold, he drifts like a barge out to 6s!!!

Definitely not happy and also bemused as this is the same bloke who told me about New Approach last season way back in May 2007.
Sorry guys for misleading you and hope none of you backed him and I hold my hands up.
June 16, 2008 at 15:31 #168558On the 2 yr olds for Ascot thread (started on May 5th), regarding our thoughts on which two year olds might turn up for the Coventry Stakes, I highlighted a Dansili colt trained by Aidan O’Brien. He won a small race at Naas first time out, in a photo finish and tomorrow he will make his re-appearnce in the Coventry.
At around 8/1, he will carry my each way money.

Oh yes, Peter Tchaikovsky is the colt’s name – in case you forgot.

Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
June 16, 2008 at 16:04 #168566You can’t do much better than two-from-two, so my fancy for the race is the Michael Bell trained ART CONNOISSEUR.
He has won both his starts in good style and will appreciate the quicker ground and step up in trip.
ORIZABA could prove to be the danger based on his Newbury romp. Mick Channon compared him to Cerito (6L winner on his debut) afterwards and he could be anything.
June 16, 2008 at 17:03 #168582A fascinating race on a fascinating card.
I had felt quite bullish about the chance of Lord Shanakil, based on the York race in which he seemingly posted a smart early-season 2YO time rating. However, my enthusiasm is tempered by 2 factors, namely:
1. There were only 2 races over the straight course at York on the day in question, so confidence in the reliability of the time ratings for those races cannot be too high.
2. He is drawn 12 of 18 in the Coventry, whereas a number of fancied horses are drawn low suggesting, perhaps, that he’ll be racing away from the main pace.
At around 18/1, though, he still rates a small interest – accepting his York performance at face value, he goes into the race with an adjusted time rating of 108 and the form of the race has a solid look.
The other major contenders with useful time ratings are:
Orizaba, on 105 and currently around the 3/1 mark – not a particularly eye-catching pedigree and perhaps another impulse buy from the Imelda Marcos of racing.
Art Connoisseur, on 104 – unraced since April and encountering much faster ground here.
June 16, 2008 at 22:09 #168621Interesting that Laddies are top-price the Ballydoyle horse given Aiden’s great record in the race- could it be a double-bluff to let Tabor and the boys get on?
June 17, 2008 at 00:23 #168646Having gone through the race this evening, I’m very much in the corner of Art Connoisseur (see the Royal Ascot discussions thread).
