Yesterday Corals announced in a fanfare how they were offering evens for Sprinter Sacre to a max of £20 from today. They also publicised how they were going to keep the offer open for days to allow everyone to get on. Many people now reporting they are being knocked back to £10. This is a pretty shabby piece of marketing by Coral.March 7, 2013 at 11:08 #431541Looks like some are getting on the £20. Saw a tweet where Coral are looking into why some are only getting £10.
March 7, 2013 at 11:17 #431542I wasn’t holding out much hope but I got the full £20 on
March 7, 2013 at 11:19 #431544You have to understand, it’s not designed for people who post on a forum. It’s designed for mug punters, who will then use the punters to do on multiples, and maybe a football bet afterwards. If you are on a forum posting about horse racing, it really isn’t aimed at you in the slightest.
March 7, 2013 at 11:24 #431545Was just about worth the trouble of negotiating Coral’s horrible clunky website for a free £20.
March 7, 2013 at 12:29 #431557Corals often refuse my full stake, but they’ve given me the full £20 on Sprinter Sacre.

You’re fortunate Gingertipster you’re full stake is only £20, they would have knocked you back if your full stake had been any higher

Hope you’re not arbing it on Betfair with your 40% premium charge.

I’ll pass since I ceased betting on the killing fields in the mid eighties.

Taking Evens about something that will go off @ 1/4, possibly a lot shorter than that if Sizing Europe goes for the Ryanair… is just common sense.
"Value is everything" Eddie. If I think a bet is value I will take it; whether I can only get £20 on or my usual stakes.
Value Is EverythingMarch 7, 2013 at 21:23 #431608The real question is why are Corals offering Evens money at £20 stake. They not doing it for charity I think they expect it to be beaten, but can only lay off a certain amount.

Really? I think they very much expect SS to win, thus opening and seeding several thousand new accounts who they would hope to convert to the thrills of their online casino (and other delights of course).
So as you correctly say, they’re not doing it for charity.

March 7, 2013 at 22:45 #431617Their PR man, Simon Clare responded to criticism re those who’d been restricted to a tenner (on an already restricted offer) by saying that they’d averaged a stake of £18, so ‘most had got on for £20’.
Reality is that, on those figures, they risked some bad blood and bad PR for the sake of saving £2 a punter.
March 8, 2013 at 10:13 #431639"Coral sought to weed out "shrewd" customers and those taking advice from websites to get the £20 bet and hedge on betting exchanges at a likely 1-4 to guarantee a £12 profit".
How would they do that? Is Simon Clare psychic? And it is currently 2/5 less commission on there.
They throw a few crumbs for the needy and greedy, and vultures like Gingertipster think everything is hunky dory, they’ll get it all back and more with their large overrounds at the all weather meetings.
Can’t help thinking how much healthier the sport would be without bookmakers altogether and all prices were decided by weight of money on a Tote/Exchange.

Agree with everything bar the last word. Betting exchanges are almost as bad as bookmakers, in my opinion. The best thing for racing would be a PMU-style monopoly.
Back to this offer: I haven’t read the small print. Is the forty quid (for, surely, Sprinter Sacre isn’t going to lose) paid immediately or is there a catch in that any winnings have to be played through before you can cash them?

Absolutely. Quite the worst thing imaginable for punters though.

Thanks for quoting me on that Mike when I didn’t even say it

What’s so great about bookmakers for punters anyway? You can’t get a decent bet on at the advertised odds if at all and they close winning counts. Bookmakers on track are a joke offering under the odds, no each way.
What’s the point of having choice if you can’t get a bet on? Let weight of money decide the odds, then you can have as much as you want on with no restrictions, fair for everyone and more money for racing.
