Is Victtorino better going the other way round?
November 26, 2024 at 08:57 #1714082Has to be one of the worst renewals I’ve seen.
Im on Broadway boy at 14’s, and have added Senior Chief.
November 26, 2024 at 09:31 #1714083Tis indeed a poor event!
Just another example of ever declining quality across the board in jumps racing!
November 26, 2024 at 14:53 #171410016 at this stage topped by the loveable old boy Sam Brown who I think won the veterans final last year? And hes the highest rated horse assuming Nassalam gives it a miss. Lol what the hell has happened to our NH season. Races like this, the King George etc they’re dead. Don’t even get me started on Sir Gino taking on the handicappers in the Grade 1 hurdle. Such a shame after a promising weekend just gone, we’re back to the small fields, everyone giving the big races a swerve.
November 27, 2024 at 15:36 #1714178I think it’s an embarrassing renewal
142k to the winner and this is the what we’re given ?
November 28, 2024 at 10:53 #1714227Broadway Boy is definitely the win bet, and I’ll go Iron Bridge ew
November 28, 2024 at 12:18 #1714237Didn’t back Sam Brown ante post as he had an engagement in the Rehearsal but his price hasn’t really changed so he will be my selection. The fact that he’s top weight in this really shows what a poor race this has become.
November 28, 2024 at 12:30 #1714239This is why I suspect prize money isn’t the sole issue in jumps racing. Has the Rehearsal always been the same day as this? Two staying chase premier handicaps the same day feels very silly and unsustainable going forwards, you’ll eventually get 2x single figure field races. The prize money at Cheltenham for a handicap isn’t that much comparatively but the prestige of a festival winner for an owner probably trumps winning this great race which is such a shame.
On a separate note I’ve got a bit of a feeling for Kandoo Kid here. Looked like he wanted this trip towards the end of last season and its far from a classy renewal. Not a strong fancy by any means.
November 28, 2024 at 14:22 #1714249Iron Bridge at 25-1
Took time to recover from the appalling conditions in the Welsh National and ran well at Carlisle; not a sexy second season chaser but has a fair record on decent ground
November 28, 2024 at 14:43 #1714251no bet for me here
Hopeful for Galia Des Liteux- jockey booking encouraging
French horse seems to have a decent mark based on his french form – probably would prefer it soft/ heavy though
in hindsight might Nicholls have thought to put Brave Mans game in here – pushing a lot out the handicap. too late now
November 28, 2024 at 16:13 #1714256Iron Bridge would be my pick at the prices, I do like Kandoo Kid but the price is nothing special. Its turned into a run of the mill staying handicap chase and Iron Bridge has loads of form in them from last season to suggest he can go close on his day. He’s got that prep run under his belt. Jonjo senior trained Cloth Cap to win this a few years back in these colours.
November 28, 2024 at 16:18 #1714257Now I look at Cloth Cap’s win, that must have been the covid year? No irish as they weren’t allowed over, didn’t look a great renewal. Lightning could strike twice.
November 28, 2024 at 18:07 #1714262I’ve backed Iron Bridge for the Welsh National. I’m not expecting him to show up near the front at the finish here, I’ve taken the view that it’s another run for Chepstow fitness. Will be pleasantly surprised if he does make the frame.
November 28, 2024 at 19:48 #1714273Keen on KANDOO KID at 8/1, 3 runs here over 2m4f, beaten by a decent horse first time, won easily next and then staying on in a grade 2. One run over 3 miles was a complete blowout, had nothing to do with the trip. Latest effort, which was last season, has a good look to it (2m5f at Aintree, Grade 3) as behind him Celebre D’allen has come out and won easily on reappearance and in front of him James Du Berlais was running a big race next time at Punchestown until he fell. Can you do it, kid?
November 29, 2024 at 12:00 #1714308I’m another rowing in with Iron Bridge for this. Good form on better ground, promising prep run, stable – and owners – that clearly like to target the race, and well weighted. Ticks a lot of boxes for me.
November 29, 2024 at 12:16 #1714309Took Sam Brown (36.75 Hills boost). Has been running consistently and relatively lightly raced for his age.
November 29, 2024 at 18:47 #1714326My pin has landed on Kandoo Kid. EW 5 places.
