What is your go to meal for quickness..??

Just done myself a honey roast ham, double egg and chips and it reminded me being back on granny’s farm when I was a young lad of no more than 8 years old. The only thing missing was granny use to give us half a pint of scrumpy to wash it down with. I had to settle for tap water this evening

Linguine with a tomato, balsamic vinegar, garlic, chilli and sausage sauce.

Fifteen minutes and it’s done. Nice bottle of red wine… sorted.

Al dente Penne/Rigatoni (or any pasta shape), mixed in with a tube of triple concentrate tomato purée, bit of olive oil, your grated cheese of choice (Parmesan best but not mandatory) mixed in, or immediately sprinkled on top so it’s melting – sorted.

There’s London restaurants that would probably be charging £14.99p for that.

Jar of artichokes in oil, tip it in a pan with some garlic, boil pasta. When it’s all ready, mix it all together with a squeeze of lemon juice, chuck it in a bowl and top with your Italian hard cheese of choice and some olives and season with pepper.

Looking at Gladders’s and Richard’s recipes, I’m feeling like a first-year student turning up on Master Chef with a Toast Topper.

It is a sign of how much our diets have changed, ID.

Nowadays ingredients like linguine, balsamic vinegar and artichokes are taken for granted. When I was growing up, most people would never have heard of them.

As a child the closest we came to such exotic fare was a Vesta beef curry although I’m not convinced it was actually beef, weird stuff.

The more I know the less I understand.

I used to love Vesta meals in my youth!

Pasta Bolognese, a tacos Mexican one and some Chinese effort where you fried crispy noodles in a chip pan were my lazy favourites!

Christ knows what was really in them!

Another thumbs up for a Vesta beef curry..
How things have changed with online delivery..

As I often return home late at night, my go to meal for one is brains faggots with some smash mash.
Noticed that the price has increased in the last year for the 6 pack of faggots, from £1 to £1.80..

Much to my girlfriend’s disgust, who is a healthy vegetarian I am having a Fray Bentos tinned pie tonight and because it is just the two of us I have to eat the lot!
I randomly have one a couple of times a year reminds me of camping trips as a child, eaten with tinned potatoes and runner beans bought along from my dad’s allotment.

The more I know the less I understand.

I once had a Fray Bentos chicken curry pie.

I was rendered severely traumatised for some considerable time.

And I’m a bloke who in his student youth used to positively enjoy Heinz bacon and mushroom toast toppers.

I’m assuming out of a packet, I still have “convenience” meals, warmed up in a mircowave.

Not Pot Noodles, though. As this clip from Red Dwarf shows why

Liked Spaghetti Bolognese, but not the short spaghetti from a tin, nor spaghetti shapes.

And just come back from Lanzarote where I had Eggs Benedict for breakfast, nice but Americans did it better. :yahoo:

You've got to accentuate the positive.
    Eliminate the negative.
    Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.

Another quick and easy staple: the omelette. A basic one takes literally two minutes from scratch.

Chezza just read the recipe for a basic omelette on a BBC cookery website and thought it looked a bit too complicated for Chezza.

Plus once Chezza’s used the tiny bits of oil and butter, what is Chezza expected to do with the rest of the bottle/tub?

Cheese omelette does sound very nice, but Chezza is happy to wait until Gladders or Neil invites Chezza round for cheese omelettes.
