On face value you can understand the markets reaction in pushing him out as it isn’t what we would have come to expect from CH for a piece of work (although it wasn’t Kempton bad).
To me it looked like a piece of work that CH was clearly in need of (hardly likely that they would have benn given him searching workouts at home given the issues he is coming off of from last year) and he was also working with a horse that is likely to have had a trouble free run of things (no reported issues that we have heard of anyway) and therefore is most likely to be a lot further forward (fitness and condition wise) given that he could potentially be running on Monday (an entry for a 2m2f Kempton novice chase).
We don’t know how good of a work horse Sir Geno is generally either, possible that Hendo paired them together because he knew Sir Geno would be able to get CH to work that bit harder the him just breezing clear of a lesser work companion – that being said, you would have to think that he will be vunerable on his seasonal debut and this may very well be the right time to take him on instead of running scared.
