If he runs his next form figure will be 1 or PU, I hope it’s the former.

The more I know the less I understand.

“It’s not just a slight dip in form, it’s massive…I would not back any Henderson horse until the yard returns to form.”

Agree Ginger. Worrying for those of us on Sir Gino and Chantry House at big prices.

I have thought of laying off Sir Gino but at least he won the gallop.

I’m on Sir Gino at just over 7/1 and 11/8 NRNB and I’m not gonna lie – I’m worried.

If CH is taken out, he might not be the only one from the yard and I’m assuming they travelled in the same horsebox at least the first half of the round trip.

I’d like to back something against it on the machine in case Sir Gino comes out, but nothing stands out.

Just as an aside, I’ve lost count of the number of times over the years I’ve heard it said a horse is so good if can win when not 100% – you’d have lost a lot of money taking short odds about such horses down the years as they mostly get beat.

Two stone in hand can quickly become a minus number if the horse isn’t right.

I had already mentioned the poor stable form in recent weeks. Everything went bad after the Newbury where he had two winners and a few places horses. After that day the predominant finishing position of his runners was “PU”.
If he’d be a man with character and integrity he would test all his horses entered for Cheltenham and make the results public. The racing world doesn’t start or end with Constipation Pill, there are loads of other horses he’s responsible for and the racing public has a right to know whether they have filled the bookies pockets already with their ante-post cash. I’m sure no sort of punishment awaits him no matter what happens.

I simply do not understand the abuse that Henderson gets from some.
His priorities have to be to those horses charged to be in his care , by their connections , and then in turn , to those connections.
Everyone knows the risks that they take in placing ante post bets. Don’t blame the
trainer, simply look in the mirror.

Well, I’m not placing ante-post bets any longer, it ended during the Binocular era – not even on US sports which are more reliable.

But, why make life easy for the bookmakers and not for the fans who support racing? Why do such things as horse’s health have to be kept secret and only revealed when the public might have noticed something?

I don’t think Nicky Henderson is any worse than other trainers – they all put their paying owners ahead of the betting public.

I am not saying that’s right, but it’s understandable.

I think, as others have said, we know as much as we do this time because this was a racecourse gallop with a media presence.

Can’t really fault the public updates since it occurred.

It’s breaking news every time Constitution Hill takes a breath on the RP website at the moment.

I know what you mean, ID. But as I said earlier in the thread, Henderson is happy to accept a no doubt generous sponsorship deal from a bookmaker. He profits from losing punters. As such, his lofty attitude towards punters is grating.

If this poor work out had happened on the gallops rather than a racecourse, I suppose a rumour would have leaked out but I doubt Henderson would have been quite so upfront about it with the public.

Maybe Henderson is sick of Willie always being in the headlines. The whole saga now is beyond parody.

I think trainers are damned if they do and damned if they don’t a lot of the time but on more than a few occassions Hendo really hasn’t help himself with contradictory and/or even ill advised comments….the welfare issued he raised over good, good to soft ground (which he called good to firm) at Ascot in 2022 re CH being withdrawn from the Coral Hurdle was shameful, a race in which the noted fast ground performer (note the sarcasm there) Goshen won.

In a more media savy era finding the balance between what you do and do not make public over horses (especially high profile ones that tend to become somewhat public property with their fans) is the difficult thing trainers have to balance and it is more noticeable that the older (old school) trainers who were alwyas brought up to let nothing out at all find it harder than most of the younger ones (who have some form of media training when doing their training modules) to adjust to.

I don’t expect to be given daily updates on horses obviously but a few lines giving us a brief summary of the issue and that further updates will be given when additional info is known I don’t believe is asking for a lot…..lets face it the cloak and dagger days really should be long gone and not an acceptable way to behave in this day and age.

I do think most are right in that Hendo’s hand was forced into these frequent updates due to the public nature of CH’s poor Kempton workout and that had it happened at home, it might have taken a leak and/or his price taking a walk on exchanges for the public to get wind of something not being right before Hendo would have had to come out and address it himself.

As I have said, simply having a bookie as your stable sponsor optically leaves you open for any and all kinds of wild speculation on skulduggery being undertaken even if everything is 1000% above board…..as we all know perception is reality even when reality is telling you something the polar opposite.

    Ramble over…….for now anyway ;-)

As was the Altior/Tingle Creek incident. Henderson’s insistence the ground was heavy, when all the times showed it was good to soft, made him look foolish. His tetchy interview with Lydia Hislop was not good either.

Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that Henderson’s “bottle” has gone. I think that dates from the mistake of stepping Altior up in distance and getting him beaten, after which time he was never quite the same. Since then Henderson seems to have had a defensive attitude with his best horses.

While I stand by my original remark on the subject, I cannot argue with this from CAS tbh.

Anyway, I see “miraculous improvement” now needed.

As stated if I hadn’t already got a value betting (12/1 no more Champion Hurdle wins and 7/2 one more were simply the wrong prices, in a market where Hills and Unibet only expected to lay multiple win outcomes, plus 6/1 State Man) against him I’d have laid the very gonads off those asking for 3 (2/1) on the machine last night.

Beaten out of sight in that gallop, this is a great horse who is either seriously gone at the game or seriously sick and either way he is ALMOST absolutely certain not to run and IS absolutely certain to get beat if he does.

No sitting on the fence with me – ever.

Look forward to ripping thr proverbial out of me if he runs and wins Tuesday week – I’d actually love to see it (but feel sure I won’t).

I think Under Control may have shown signs on the way to Kelso…
Or JP rung Hendo to say take him out, as a run when under the weather takes a longer time to get over. Too long to get them back for Cheltenham.

What is a bit encouraging is that Venitia seemed to have a similar virus a couple of weeks ago.

4 winners and two seconds in her last 7 runners, all at reasonable prices.
