It’s whatever I want to call it.
The English language is our servant – we are not its servant.
Talking of servants, get in the kitchen and make me a continental cheese omelette by way of apology for this absurd intervention.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"January 15, 2024 at 10:02 #1677438“In the 47 years I’ve followed the game, I’ve seen endless campaigns by public and media to have owners and trainers target horses at certain races.
And on the thankfully rare occasions that connections bow to pressure, it’s usually with catastrophic results.”Have you got a few examples?
January 15, 2024 at 10:12 #1677439Well the press clamour for Gloria Victis to run in the Cheltenham Gold Cup for a kick off.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"January 15, 2024 at 10:21 #1677441I think Henderson is still sore about stepping up in distance with Altior and seeing him defeated.
January 15, 2024 at 10:26 #1677443When it comes to exceptional racehorses, with a few honourable exceptions, the racing public and media are like a stupid spoilt child with a new toy.
If they had their way, they wouldn’t stop testing/abusing it until they broke it.
In refusing to race Frankel beyond 1m2f or outside Britain, the late Henry Cecil treated both with the contempt they richly deserved.
If the horse had been media/public property, it would have been the Breeders’ Cup Classic and an endless other bucket list over various distances on various surfaces globally until the horse was finally beaten.
Henderson mostly (Altior a rare lapse) acts the same as Cecil because no good ever comes of giving in to the public or the media.
Awful blokes, the public – and the media are even worse.

I always thought that was down to the owner and trainer. Can’t imagine Martin Pipe ever bowing to media or public pressure and running in a race he didn’t want to. If memory serves plenty of media and public suggested the novice race would be better for GV, similarly with Coneygree.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing.January 15, 2024 at 10:32 #1677445“If memory serves” – it didn’t with the Cecil Frail a year or two back.
Hindsight is indeed a wonderful thing – a fully-functioning memory might just have the edge on it, though.

January 15, 2024 at 14:18 #1677458Can’t they give him some Benylin

The more I know the less I understand.
January 15, 2024 at 14:58 #1677460I wonder what the excuse will be when CH is withdrawn on the day on 12th March.
January 15, 2024 at 15:21 #1677463The stable is not having many runners at all. Don’t be surprised if El Fabiolo faces only one or two opponents on Saturday.

January 15, 2024 at 19:50 #1677492Henderson’s obsession about those 1s next to a horses name. Perhaps one way of getting to see these horses more often before the Cheltenham Festival is to say every horse must have run at least 3 times that season. I bet Constitution Hill would run 3 times then ‘bad scope’ or not.
January 15, 2024 at 20:03 #1677494Ham: “It’d do the game good if he lost the CH”.
I am starting to think so as well, only slightly because like ID I have backed him to win only 1 or 2 renewals.
If he was beaten, perhaps Henderson might stop being so precious about the ground not being absolutely perfect and about there being no suitable races (when there are, if he bothered looking).
January 15, 2024 at 20:28 #1677498Like CAS, it would certainly do my bank balance good if Constitution Hill got beat in the Champion Hurdle!
But tbh I think it highly unlikely – he was held up in a slowly-run Christmas Hurdle and still pulverised them in cold blood.
Constitution Hill could do a Browne’s Gazette at the start and he’d still be no bigger than even money in running.

He won’t register outside the racing bubble. Its up to them but the endless saga is tiresome and means nobody is bothered about the 2 mile hurdlers that much. He’s not seeing the big picture here.
