Well done Mark for being one of those chosen to try out for the Announcer job at Churchill Downs!!
Mark, if you see this, drop me an email. I am 4-5 hours from Churchill and if there is anything I can do to help you, I would be more than willing. I think there are a few days you have off and I am just down I-64 which travels to Churchill, so if you want to meet up or come and stay over for a day or so, feel free.

PS Craig – not sure if Mark patrols these waters, to be honest. Maybe a FAO letter or email to Racing UK might be a safer option? Failing that, maybe one of us can check whether his personal contact details are printed in the current Directory of the Turf. HTH.

October 3, 2008 at 13:08 #183175Oh Christ, yes, Paul – my entry with the typo and a number of salient details missing! Must be about that time of year to re-submit, incidentally, mustn’t it?

I think it is about that time again and I am merrily sitting here responding to posts almost forgetting it is an early start at Newmarket today with their bumper nine race card – I had better get my skates on.
October 3, 2008 at 13:47 #183183The day Newmarket hosts a nine-race card of bumpers is the day I’ll consider getting annual membership there, Paul.

Even better, why not buy 22 portable fences and lay them over the 3m6f of the Town Plate course and have a quality days racing on the July Course.

Now that’s a good idea. Could we put grass down at the All Weather tracks and put up jumps on them as well, much better than now eh!!
Chris Pitt’s excellent book "A Long Time Gone" has a section on the Newmarket Jumps Track on page 114 of the hardback edition. Held from 1894 to 1905
October 4, 2008 at 04:49 #183299Ooh, well remembered, Bob – yes, that’s another revealing little chapter in one of the best racing books ever. Fact.
