The way issues such as Motor Tax & Insurance are run is a joke. Why should I pay motor tax for a year just to keep my car in my drive and then pay for public transport as well. Motor tax should be incorporated into fuel prices ONLY so that the more you drive, the more you pay. Insurance is a joke as well. Take a guy who needs a van for work and then also has a car for personal use. He has to pay insurance on BOTH vehicles for 365 days a year but can only drive one vehicle at a time. There should be a system where an individual can put a number of vehicles on the one insurance policy and therefore have a reduced overall premium.
It’ll never catch on though cos it makes too much sense.
Agree about the multiple vehicles but this has been abused by some in the past where putting additional people on their cover with a ‘second vehicle’ as a means to pay cheaper premium when they are not the primary driver. I do think that road tax should be scrapped and putting the tax on fuel where no one can avoid paying for it, maybe the way to go, however this will not further any regulations trying to pursue ‘greener’ vehicles. The alternative could be to put a tax on the insurance but not sure if that would be workable either? It’s not just large cities which are suffering from terrible traffic congestion. Where I live is a nightmare in rush hour, morning and night, and considered a medium size town at best.
