    AOB on Tenebrism…

“There is always a chance that the trip might have been too far but we will get back and see but we thought she would get the mile. Looking at that you would have to think about if she did get that trip. There are still plenty of big days for her.”

I don’t see the point of keeping her to a mile myself if she is going to have them big days AOB is after.

opportunities at G1 level against her own sex basically Mike. If they don’t think she could win a Commonwealth Cup against her own age she won’t be winning a July Cup against her elders and there might be better opportunities at a mile. Its not a strong division the female milers, you saw as much in the 1000 Guineas and the Dahlia. Dreamloper wouldnt scare you and nor would Cachet if you thought she stayed ok and there are so many winnable races like the Matron and Sun Chariot where the fields always cut up. Baffles me why there are so many female only mile G1s but no such sprints. They’ve perservered with fillies with less ability than Tenebrism and reaped the rewards at a mile against their own sex (Roly Poly, Alice Springs) whereas it took a long time for Fairyland to win a G1 sprint and even she went and ran in an Irish 1000 Guineas after Newmarket.

I think Ryan would have told them whether she stayed or not. They will give her one more try at the curragh probably then if necessary sprints after that.

I thought Tenebrism ran a truly dismal race on Sunday.

Under pressure 3f in a mile contest she should have had zero problem lying up with the pace in, she wouldn’t have won if the race had been 6f, or any distance, yesterday.

I wouldn’t be backing her next time out, whether it’s The Curragh, Ascot or anywhere.

Regarding Perfect Power’s chances at Ascot, a lot will depend on the ground…

“He was finding the ground a little too quick, especially running down the dip and he changed his legs and shortened his stride. He was definitely stiff the following morning, so we’re going to have to find some more suitable ground for him because it was too fast.”

You must have been watching a different race, Mike.

Not run on proper firm ground yet, but if he does it wouldn’t put me off. To my eyes Perfect Power has a lovely flowing , pointy, top-of-the-ground action associated with a firm surface.

In the Guineas Perfect Power seemed trapped behind horses around 2 1/2 out, then – once in the clear – couldn’t stay on through the final furlong.

Ground on Guineas day wasn’t as firm as his victories in the Cheveley Park on the same course, or Norfolk at Ascot.

It was Good to Firm officially in the Greenham and Perfect Power actually broke standard by 0.13 seconds.

And he was only 0.82 seconds slow when he won the Middle Park and 1.04 seconds slow when he won the Norfolk.

He was even only 2.21 seconds slow in the Prix Morny, though tbh I don’t really trust RP standard times for French racecourses as it can sometimes manifestly be a quagmire yet the RP still has them close to their standard.

But clearly Perfect Power is effective on Good, even Good to Firm, ground.

As he was stiff post race, they may not risk a potential season ending injury by running on summer good to firm. Sounds fair enough.

If they thought the ground was the problem in the Guineas he’d be going for the St James’s Palace.

Twilight jet beats New York City handily at Naas on seasonal reappearance to throw his hat into the ring

Not entirely sure it’s the strongest line of form in the world

The sandy Lane stakes at Haydock on Saturday looks potentially very informative for this

    Noble truth
    Ebro River
    Wings of war
    Lusail
    Go Bears Go

Hopefully a good few are declared

Noble truth dropped to 6f would be very interesting

I’ve just been looking at the Sandy Lane – fascinating.

And as for Noble Truth – by Kingman out of a Frankel mare and right now looks every bit as much of a tearaway headbanger as his maternal grandsire was in his early 3yo days!

The way he’s first bolted, then bolted in, over 7f makes me think coming back to 6f will be no bother at all!

    Can’t wait for this one.

He has loads of ability imo Ian he’s just a complete nutter

He is so keen in his races, the question is whether he’s as fast as he seems to think he is

He’s not been gelded despite being such a lunatic so they must be hoping there’s still a stallion in there somewhere

The stiff 6f of ascot and races like the prix maurice de gheest could be right up his alley
