I’d suggest the reasoning behind messrs Nicholls and King’s respecetive prowess with chasers and hurdlers is more attitude than method. Everything that comes to Ditcheat seems to be shown a fence as soon as is humanly possible.

My money is on the horse leaving O’Brians yard pretty soon…

Aidan has quite a few Montjues in training who are just below group level who would make excellent NH horses.Hebridean I believe he owned at one time and is bred by his wife.McManus has horses all over the place and Aidan trained for him before Jonjo took over Jackdaw.

I’d love to know a top level Montjeu that would be able to run at 5, I think there are very few, very hard horses to keep sound.

To keep sane and sound! How about Won in the Dark; third in the Triumph Hurdle and easy winner subsequently of Champion 4yo at Punchestown.Of course next year will be the test .

Does anyone think that we will ever see Aidan O’Brien train jumpers again like he did with Istabraq 10 years ago. I would love to see him have a runner of 2 at the cheltenham festival again. Why did he exclusively train on the flat in the first place? Perhaps JP should get his chequebook out to try to entice Aidan O’Brien to train in the winter code. How would Aidan done had he stayed with training jumpers from 2002 onwards? Would he trained a cheltenham gold cup winner or 2 or maybe finish ahead of Paul Nicholls in the trainers title? A few months ago while reading his stable tour in the Racing Post he has a 3 year old colt by Milan called Table Mountain, a sign of things to come perhaps?

Strange you should mention that, because we read an article earlier in the season [don’t ask me what it said; memory doesn’t go back that far thse days] and I had a gut feeling that he could one day be drawn back to the jumps. It’s been on my mind recently, as well. Time will tell.

I don’t think its going to happen unfortunately. Money talks I’m afraid. Don’t think Magnier would want his attention on anything other than the flat. Distractions of Cheltenham at a time when Ballydoyle would be gearing up for start of flat?

Maybe young Joey will ride a couple of winners at Cheltenham in years to come? Looks like the lad is sprouting up and I can’t see being able to do the weights for the flat.

Aidan O’Brien revealed in an interview last year that he expected the Coolmore team to gradually migrate towards David Wachman in time and that he was preparing Piltown so he could return when he was asked to vacate Ballydoyle. If that happened, then I’d very much expect him to go dual-purpose, although I’d call it a very big "if".

Magnier is no fool. You’ll never see Wachman at Ballydoyle no matter who David is married to! Jamie Spencer was his nephew and he got bullet for being unable to attain high standards set by Ballydoyle. Wachman’s time at Ballydoyle would be even shorter lived!

AOB once said ‘a trainer can’t make bad horses good but they can make good horses bad.’

That’s exactly what would happen with Wachman in Ballydoyle.

Eventually i have no doubt he will leave but Aidan is a very young man as he is only 41 i think. He prob will stay another 20 years and then even young O Brien could take over the helm at Ballydoyle under the watchful eye of his father while Aidan becomes Full Trainer to John Paul McManus over the jumps.

Obviously a lot of if’s but i be surprised if he stayed all his life training flat horses full time

That’s the article I was thinking of; someone posted it on here and a very interesting article it was, too. I suppose it’s been on my mind, with Coolmore not having the success this year that one would expect them to have, because I wondered at the start of the season if a few cracks were starting to show.

Doubt it Moehat….the biggest investment this year the sprinter from oz. O Brien has doubled its value as a Stallion.

If ever their was a example of giving the man the goods and him doing the same its that horse.

I dont know anymore than the average joe soap but I would be 100% shocked if Aiden reverted back to the NH game..

I much prefer the jumps but from Aidens point of view why would he leave the challenge of training horses to win inIreland,England,France,Germany,American,Canada,USA to go back to National Hunt???

Surely the challenge is much greater in flat racing and the rewards are also far greater.

One below par season doesnt mean there are cracks starting to show in Coolmore, thats a bit OTT.

I genuinely feel a lot of Aidens horses are been geared towards peaking at Breeders Cup this year, and sure its easy to see why, their top USA stallion is Giants Causeway commanding $100,000.

Whilst Aidens team have not enjoyed the success of previous seasons I think it may be down to a change in direction this year. Fame and Glory not running in the King George was a big pointer to this for me, RIP slowly but surely reintroduction was also a big pointer, Aiden has already come out and said he was far from 100% for the Sussex, I think they have their eyes firmly set on America with him

100% agree with you. Given how Australian owners love coming over to Ascot and July Cup, StarspangledBanners value must have shot through the roof with his two wins over here. Very very difficult to do, not even the brilliant Choisir could do this….

I`ll tell you an interesting fact,he phones his nephew Tom O`Brien almost every night after racing,if Tom has ridden, and discusses his riding and mounts. He is an enthusiast all right.
