Alan Swinbank trained and Dean Mc Keown ridden Collier Hill wins the Cathay Pacific Vase.
What a star this horse and what a magnifent job Alan Swinbank and his team have done with this horse.
December 10, 2006 at 10:19 #33231Couldn’t agree more, a magnificent effort by all concerned.

Colier Hill was bought for a career in jump races by his trainer for a little price. What did he perform in this speciality?
December 12, 2006 at 08:11 #33233Great performance.
dancarter, stick to kicking goals. Why would you want to waste this horse’s earning potential by turning him into the champion hurdler?
December 12, 2006 at 08:44 #33234Dan
(the name is Collier Hill)
Indeed the horse was purchased for a small sum but last Sunday showed you that you don’t always have to be trained by one of the fashionable trainers or have one of the World’s better known jockeys on to win.
Collier Hill has run on the flat a lot more times than in hurdle races.
Just 5 runs over hurdles (2 wins) yet 40 runs on the flat with 13 wins and 9 seconds.
So in over half the time on the flat the horse has either won or finished second………………and for the owners and staff a goldmine with total prize money of £2,306,585.
Cant crib anything there myself.
December 12, 2006 at 08:58 #33235What struck me about the race was Dean McKeown’s riding style. He looks different somehow in a race worth half a million to the winner.
December 12, 2006 at 09:06 #33236Just 4 runs over hurdles, his debut was in a bumper. Makes him the first horse to win in G1 company that started his career in such events.
December 12, 2006 at 10:00 #33237What about Les Arcs?
December 12, 2006 at 10:37 #33238What about Les Arcs? Les Arcs career began in 2003 when with John Gosden. Even if Les Arcs had run in a bumper (which he hasn’t) he still wouldn’t be the first horse to win a G1 on the Flat that started his career in that sphere, that accolade would still go to Collier Hill as his Irish Leger victory from 2005 obviously came before Les Arcs Golden Jubilee win.
December 12, 2006 at 11:37 #33239Is Collier Hill the 1st horse to pick up 3 cheques of a $Million or more in one season?
It may have been done by a Japanese horse but possibly nowhere else
December 12, 2006 at 12:28 #33240Apologies DJ, didn’t pick up on the "first" part of your point..
