Hi Ivanjica. To your comment about the Wildenstein epaulets showing up on French tracks. The only things I can think of is the Wildensteins are running two stables in two different names OR the Ecurie Wildenstein stable has folded????
    1. Ecurie Wildenstein: Royal Blue, Light Blue Cap
    2. Wildenstein Stables Limited: Royal Blue, Light Blue Epaulets and Cap.
Yes, and great to see the All Red silks coming back under Haras du Quesnay (the Head family). Certainly have fond memories of Ravinella.

    Laticsfan,
Thanks for posting the Grand National colours. I had seen snippets on this thread but never a comprehensive list.

I have converted to SVG graphics (IE9, Firefox, Chrome etc) at:

I am in the process of collating the Coronation Stakes list.

So far I have these gaps (any help gratfeully appreciated as always!):

    1846 – Guaracha – G S FORD

1879 – Lelia – J H HOULDSWORTH = Raciana has the colours listed as "Green and Gold, Green Cap" – but without pictorial evidence this not sure if it means halved, hoops, quarters or what.

1891 – Cereza – W B CLOETE – similar to above – "Crimson, black and white sleeves, black cap" – does this mean stripes, hoops or halved??

1972 – Calve – LORD GRANARD – can only find colours registered to Lady Granard (black, red stars and cap)

1983 – Flame Of Tara – MISS P O’KELLY – I have "Light blue cap with Cerise Hoop" form the 1984 Craven Stakes Blaze Of Tara ran in. The colours are not clearly described – I am presuming it is a light blue jacket with a light blue cap and cerise hoop on the cap only.

Hi , hope the following helps.

1846 Guaracha Ford – 1843 Oaks winner , Poison , was owned by George Ford , colours described as Blue – the following link backs that up.

    http://www.donaldheald.com/prints/Poiso … ernr=13115

1879 Lelia – may be helpful , maybe not . 1836 1000 Guineas winner was Destiny owned by T Houldsworth Green & Gold stripes but with a gold/yellow cap ???

1891 Cereza Cloete had hooped sleeves as per Paradox ( 2000 Gns ) & Cherimoya ( Oaks ) Google Image Cherimoya Oaks and you should get the evidence straight away.

Never seen a mention of Lord Granard but will keep looking – likewise for Flame of Tara.

    cheers
    I.

J H HOULDSWORTH and W B CLOETE colours can both be seen in the Pall Mall Gazette of 1912

Thanks guys, great work as always.

ENE, that Pall Mall pdf is brilliant – how did you unearth that??
From their depitcion of the Houldsworth colours it would seem some years later the jackey would be registered to E R More-O’Ferrall.

Slewman, obviously that Craven Stakes racecard ommitted the cerise jacket. I did find on youtube today Sadlers Wells’ Phoenix Champion Stakes in which Flame Of Tara ran and although the pictures are hardly ideal, if does show the jacket to be Cerise. I guess the cap has changed over time as on the RP site the more recent versino seems to inddicate a green cap with cerise spots.

Isinglass, great investigative work on google as always! The Ford colours look identical to Godolphin’s – I wonder if the Dubai powerhouse are aware of the lineage?

I know its being pedantic but the 1983 Coronation Stakes racecard officially describes Miss O’Kelly’s colours (Flame of Tara) as
CERISE jacket and sleeves, SKY BLUE cap with CERISE hoop, just in case anybody is that meticulous!

    Ivanjica,
I found the Pall Mall Gazette at Greg Way’s brilliant bookshop in Newmarket. Sadly it seems that the 1912 edition was the only one published.

LORD GRANARD did indeed have the same colours as Lady Granard – BLACK, RED stars and cap. Lady Granard (or Beatrice Forbes) was the daughter of Ogden Mills and had a huge racehorse string for many years until her death in January 1992, when her son Arthur (who by now was Lord Granard as his father had died) inherited the horses. They included Calve and a few average ones trained by John Dunlop in the 80s (Bold Rex?). I have a racecard from Haydock in 1985 that confirms the colours

    Thanks again everyone.

I have discovered some more gaps in the Coronation Stakes which are:

    1934 – Foxcraft – M FIELD

    1957 – Toro – W R JOHNSTONE

    1960 – Barbaresque – W GUEST

1962 – Display – MRS B GRANARD (I wonder is this Lady Grandard prior to becoming titled?)

Once I have these I think I will have nailed it – will post the full list up here presently.

    Hi ,

1934 Foxcroft Marshall Field Straw Straw & Cherry hooped cap.

In the 1959 Ruffs Guide it has a Lady Granard listed with usual Black Red Stars Red cap

Interestingly , her steeplechase colours were Black Silver braid Cerise cap.

Would assume the B Granard in 1962 is a different lady – wouldn’t she have had a completely different name before becoming Lady Granard ? keep digging.

Also a Lady Granard had the winner of the 1937 French Oaks carrying Black Garnet Cap which ties in with the Ogden Phipps colours in American racing.

    Incestuous world isn’t it ?

Agree the Pall Mall download is very good. Have a couple more to post soon that I’ve found for the Irish classics from way back and also will be calling in a favour for some Grand National runners – will be easy for you folks.

    cheers
    I.

I would think that 1960 – Barbaresque – W GUEST is William Guest or W.F.C. Guest, brother to Raymond Guest of Sir Ivor fame.
William Guest also raced Gyr in Nijinsky’s Derby.
His colours were YELLOW, CHOCOLATE SLEEVES and CAP.

Thanks Slew and IDB – the W Guest one is plausible.

So I have just the two left to get –

    1957 – Toro – W R JOHNSTONE & 1962 – Display – MRS B GRANARD

Also, staying on the Royal Ascot theme, I am still having no luck in tracking down the following St James’s Palace Stakes ones:

    1928: Royal Minstrel G P Gough
    1927: Kincardine A Barclay
    1887: Florentine Lord Calthorpe
    1859: Cynricus J Wyndham
