Thanks guys, if it is the Mrs Hausmann that Isinglass refers to, it would make her the same owner as MONTCONTOUR – winner of the Hardwicke in 1978 where she was described as Mme H Hausmann (not A)? However, Montcontour was trained in France (by Maurice Zilber) so it might be the same lady, but we cannot be sure (racecard needed i think!!)

    Hi Isinglass,

Champion Hdle 1963 Winning Fair George Spencer

I have found a Mr G H Spencer in the Steeple-Chasing colours section of the 1949 Ruff’s Guide. Not sure if it is the George Spencer of Winning Fair fame but it would seem likely:

Light Blue, Dark Blue Sleeves, Red and White Qtd Cap

I have different colours for George Spencer being, YELLOW, RED hoop, RED and GREEN quartred cap]. However, I will have to turn some files upside down to remmber where I got them from.. I guess it was from the Irish Racing Authorities because I believe he trained /lived in Ireland

I have a jpeg of the 1978 Arc race card won by Alleged and Montcontour is a runner under the ownership of Mrs H Hausmann and the colours described as gros bleu manches bleu-clair toque jaune. DARK BLUE, LIGHT BLUE SLEEVES, YELLOW CAP.

Thanks Slewman, I agree with Mrs Hausmann’s colours (although I thought it was a striped cap), but the question is is she the same Mrs A Hausmann who owned Flirting Around?

Having completed most of the cheltenham biggest races, I was looking at the "newer" ones. Anyone know what colours Alexander banquet carried when winning the bumper in 1999 ? The owner was Martin Swarbrick, but by 2000 he was owned by Mrs O’Callaghan. I saw a video of MR Ruby walsh riding him recently but didnt think to register the colours!

Hi Ile de B. always interested , slow to post, sorry.

Last "random" Grand National question for a while ( well 2 weeks maybe ) – anyone know the colours carried by Rosinver Bay in the 1969 National ?

    Any help appreciated as ever.

Have found some more Irish/French classic winners –

BLACK, PRIMROSE sash, collar and cuffs, BLACK cap, from the Daily Express of the day!
Incidentally, the same Mr Riddell-Martin that owned Lough Inagh who won the 1975 Champion Chase

As for Mr Gibson taking over the silks I believe that silks that belonged to very successful owner of the past should be put in a museum and barred. In France you cannot use the Marcel Boussac silks (orange, grey cap) or the Jean Ternynk silks (Green, black cap). Those colours are not available to owners registering silks. Good idea I think. Will we ever see the old Aga Khan’s green and chocolate hoops on a racetrack again owned by a John Citizen?? Hope not.
    :D

    looks like his grandson….

“This has been a lucky race for me as I won it twice with Bishop of Cashel (1994 and 1995), who loved soft ground and this fellow is a different horse when he can get his toe in,” said James Fanshawe after Polar Ben had taken the Group 111 GNER Park Stakes in a driving finish with With Reason and Tarjman.

“He was a bit unlucky at Newmarket last time and for a long time I thought he would not get a run here,” said Fanshawe. “But he is as tough as nails and deserved to win that race. He gets a mile but I do not know what we will do with him next.

“His owner, Simon Gibson, comes from a family which has had a lot of winners over the years and his grandfather, Lord Glanely, owned the only Derby winner to be trained at my yard. That was Grand Parade, who was trained by Frank Barling and won the Derby in 1919, ridden by Fred Templeman.

“Another member of the family was David Gibson, who rode a lot of jumping winners as an amateur, including three Grand Military Gold Cups on Klaxon.”

5.30 Newbury tomorrow, Simon Gibson has honoured his grandfather by naming the expensive son of Exceed And Excel after him – Glanely.

I am very pleased to see Mr Gibson bring to life his grandfather’s famous silks. An icon of British horse racing. Also good to see Mark Dixon carry on the famous R.D. Hollingsworth silks of Crimson, Silver Braid, who I also believe is related.

Hello all, an ammendmant to French Derby colours.
1964 LE FABULEUX (Mme G. Weisweiller) we believed as Maroon, maroon Cap with Mrs Weisweiller using her husband’s silks but finding a 1964 Arc Card on ebay Le Fab’s silks certainly look like Dark Blue, Pink Cap
Also the Arc winner in that race Prince Royal II seems to have carried Red, black triangle, red cap black triangles.

    Brilliant work as always Slewman.

I had the Ellsworth colours as a "red and black quartered cap" so I wonder if what the French call "Triangles" on the cap is the same as our "quarters" – I think I have some visual evidence of these colours, possibly in an Arc raceday magazine from the late 80s so will dig it out.

As I mentioned on another thread great to see the all red colours I mainly associate with 1988 Guineas heroine Ravinella back in the Classic winners circle at Chantilly today. Also a great boost for Criquette Head whose string has dwindled in recent years due to poor health.

I noticed the winner of yesterday’s Prix De Malleret (Pacific Rim) carried the colours usually associated with the Wildensteins’ UK based runners (ie. with light blue epaulets) even though she is trained in France by Mikel Delzangles.

Anyone know why the apparent change in French colours?
