Well that has thrown the proverbial cat amongst the pigeons for the QMCC.
Niall Houlihan take a bow for that ride, didn’t think he was going to fend off Edwardstone but he obviously was saving a bit in front and seemed to outstay him.
Not sure what to make of Energumene, mistake at the last obvious cost him what chance he had but you would have a big doubt as to whether he would have picked up the winner as even though he hadn’t gone for everything Townend was significantly off the bridle coming to the last…..maybe him jumping into the back of Amarillo Sky and stumbling a few fences earlier had some affect on him?
Also, I wonder if Hendo is starting to rue his decision in not giving Shishkin a QMCC entry now.
January 28, 2023 at 13:48 #1632588Hate to see those riding tactics on a brilliant front runner like Energumene.
Yes, he won a Queen Mother with those tactics but the race fell apart with Shiskin not turning up and Chacun Pour Soi falling.
He’s the best 2 miler around so connections shouldn’t be afraid of anyone. Let the others change tactics.I want to see him eye balling Moores horse from the get go in March.
January 28, 2023 at 13:50 #1632590Chezza wants the same 1st and 2nd – either way round will do – at the Fez!

So do I. Edwardstone will pick them both off.
January 28, 2023 at 13:57 #1632601Blasting off in front going eye ball to eye ball with the winner would have set it up perfectly for Edwardstone imho – the only thing I think Townend might have done different was to be on the outside of Amarillo Sky instead of up his inside as he seemed to be getting in his way a bit at some of the fences including the one I mentioned earlier.
January 28, 2023 at 14:58 #1632641Maybe Energumene/Shishkin aren’t as good as we thought they were
January 28, 2023 at 14:59 #1632642Would Altoir and Sprinter beat both …..

It was only a Grade 1…

January 28, 2023 at 17:35 #1632685Nice work Bobby. Well done.
January 28, 2023 at 18:39 #1632693It’s a good thing they rearranged the Clarence House. Just imagine Edwardstone and Energumene battling it out a long way clear of Amarillo Sky. Every pundit would have told us how great the two horses are and that they can’t wait for a rematch at the Fez.
I’m glad Gary Moore had the balls to run Editeur Du Gite even if the prize money was significantly lower than at Ascot. Well done to him and to his backers.
January 28, 2023 at 18:40 #1632694It was a cracking race tbf.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 28, 2023 at 21:03 #1632705The going will/should be quicker in March than it was today. I wouldn’t be ruling out the Mullins horse yet

Energumene is “finnish.”
The Clarence House form will be repeated in March – I hope!
