Sounds as though she isn’t going to front it this year [no surprise there; boat race is far more important
]. Who do we think should do it? We reckon John Inverdale would be a good choice; he’s very good on R5’s coverage of Cheltenham.January 7, 2015 at 21:46 #500692I heard that Gok has got the job along side his bbf

January 8, 2015 at 07:56 #500710Why does it need someone different just for the Grand National?
As Balding has already stated she is reducing her days substantially from her already meagre 40 I would say thanks but goodbye to her.
Inverdale would be a good choice but I would have him on a more regular basis rather than just for the National.
I see Persad has spoke in support of Luck doing it, could this be the kiss of death for Luck’s chances?
January 8, 2015 at 08:08 #500712Rishi. As a presenter he’s affable, articulate, not full of hype. Cringy at the post-race interviews but everyone is, they are a silly idea.
For the GN you need to appeal to the occassional viewer not the anorack.
January 8, 2015 at 08:50 #500715I see Rishi getting the gig too. He’s improved no end over the last few years and could easily step up to the mark. Only downside is he’s not a household name, but he could have better known sidekicks with him.
January 8, 2015 at 10:20 #500721I’ve never understood the hype of Claire Balding and why she is in such demand, the rating figures for her shows don’t match the hype and it would be better if she gave up the C4 racing gig entirely at this rate.
It’s not like the days of Grandstand and Des Lynam anymore, C4 racing is a stand alone show so Nick Luck and the usual crew will do just fine and a waste of cash to try and parachute a ‘name’ in to host the programme.
January 8, 2015 at 13:10 #500740Will the "Casual viewer" tune into C4 before 4pm (if GN starts at say 4.15pm). So I don’t think it matters. Personally would prefer Rishi to Nick Luck. He also owes him one after Luck was taking the p*ss out of him last week regarding his tip
January 8, 2015 at 20:04 #500785Derek "Thommo" Thompson – he’s a household name

But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE not Gina Harding nee Bryce she’s so boring would rather watch Mick Fitzgerald
A totally off the wall suggestion Ant & Dec they know nothing about racing but could bring in more and different viewers.
January 8, 2015 at 20:45 #500793For those who have suggested Rishi, I’m sure I read earlier this week that he’s already pencilled in for covering the US Masters for the Beeb.
Don’t see any conceivable reason why Nick Luck should not anchor the National coverage and it would be a bit of a slap in the face to "parachute" in a celebrity.
Surely for the once a year punters the most important personnel are messrs Holt, Hoiles and (presumably) Bartlett.
January 8, 2015 at 20:46 #500796As long as they don’t bring back Ortis!!!

Stay Lucky,
SeanJanuary 8, 2015 at 21:54 #500808What about Mick Fitzgerald hosting it, because as he said.
"It’s better than sex!"
January 8, 2015 at 22:45 #500814Peter Kay?

Incorrect. Ant and Dec are or were owners. Inverdale also involved in ownership with Henry Candy
January 8, 2015 at 23:30 #500827I didn’t read/hear the article about it [the S.O. mentioned it t’other day] but I think he said they were looking for someone more high profile to present it. We tend to see John Inverdale at Cheltenham [often with Andrew Thornton] and they always seem to be having a great time.
January 8, 2015 at 23:42 #500828Nick Luck all day long.
Never rated Balding ever and crime of the century that the impeccably spoken, affable, urbane, witty and ever so slightly tongue in cheek Luckmeister is beneath her in the racing media pecking order.
