I admit to being an avid National Hunt fan, but when I do attend a flat meeting, how come the applause around the winners enclosure is sparse or non existent with the exception of ‘big’ meetings?
Over the sticks be it long shot or favourite they always get a generous amount of applause.
I attended Wolverhampton last Friday & I was the only one to applaud the winners. This doesn’t just apply to A/W racing it’s happened at Thirsk, Beverley, Haydock to name bit three. Is it that the majority of NH enthusiasts are real horse lovers whereas the Flat enthusiasts are there more from a betting perspective & day out?

At Beverley I found the problem is getting from the stands to the unsaddling enclosure quick enough to see them come in. They unsaddle very near to the course exit, so they are in and unsaddled before many people get there.
