These sorts of races often attract the lowest form of horse who can no longer perform to their handicap rating and can be claimed or sold after the race.

But I was wondering if they make good betting opportunities?

They are normally small fields and you can usually discount most of the horses.

Does anyone target these races to bet on?

    Thoughts?

The type of races most open to corruption, would avoid a punt on them at all costs.

Plus low grade horses are often low grade because they run inconsistently, so their form is all over the place and the quality of their run unpredictable. Steer clear I’d say.

Claimers are one of my favourite types of races. Most of them consist of two or three with a chance and a bunch of no hopers. The top weights are the place to look, and there have been seasons when there’s been a near break even situation blindly backing the top weight.

Claimers are a decent target for exposed horses that have ability but are held by the handicapper. Yes there is a risk that trsiners might lose their horse but, in the main, there isn’t a claiming culture in this country.

Not so keen on sellers, but I’m sure there are one or two on here who would swear by them even if for no other reason that a good percentage of the runners wouldn’t win a walkover.
