All about opinions.
A line which is oft-quoted in all walks of life, and especially in racing.
The trouble is that some opinions are based on analysis of facts, while others are based upon nothing more than delusion or wishful thinking. And people often mistake their personal preference for fact; the two are completely different.
For example: Katie Price is my favourite author, so she is a better author than William Shakespeare.
July 8, 2024 at 21:59 #1701305“Hawk wing got his huge rating due to handling soft going”.
No Mickey, the Lockinge was not run on anything like soft going.
“Timeform seem to choose the narrative rather than dealing what’s in front of them”.
“I’m sure timeform will overreact to that if it happens”.No; they work out the form in the same way, and they don’t overreact. They’re just working it out in a way that some people don’t understand.
If Timeform did the things you accuse them of, then I and many others would not be making a profit.
Value Is EverythingJuly 8, 2024 at 23:16 #1701314Gladiateur , Iam getting back into reading , fed up with TV , what Katie Price book would you recommend please .
July 9, 2024 at 00:20 #1701318So hawk wings rating was justified. Mmmm. Its still opinion from timeform and yes rosallion won despite things not being ideal as did cot. That then surely is an opinion to coming up with a figure. There are lies, damned lies blah de blah. You can use facts to suit any case. To me ratings are a virtual irrelevance. As for stud values they only matter in the first couple of seasons and breeders will make their own judgement on who or who is not a value stallion. That’s my opinion of course.🤣🤣
July 9, 2024 at 12:14 #1701343Anyone can have any opinion they like on any rating, but it helps if the things you are judging that rating on are true. From what you said in your previous post, Mickey:
“Hawk wing got his huge rating due to handling soft going”.
…It is clear that your assessment of Timeform’s rating is based on something that is not true.
I’d be interested to know what you rate that Lockinge performance, and why?
Including what ratings you believe the other horses in the race ran to.Value Is EverythingJuly 9, 2024 at 14:51 #1701352Helcat, they’re pretty much all the same.
Better than Shakespeare. 👍
July 9, 2024 at 16:01 #1701354I do want to say thanks to the connections of COT, not that they’ll see it, but it would have been the worst renewal of the Eclipse in the history of the race probably if he hadn’t run. They didn’t need to run him and they did so fair play to them. I remember not even that long ago them pulling out Gleneagles from pretty much every race he was entered in, normally on the day because they couldn’t get his porridge the right temperature or something like that.
July 9, 2024 at 19:27 #1701367It was the worst renewal even with him in it. 😉
July 9, 2024 at 22:14 #1701377You don’t really have the quality of older horse that we had in 80,90,s and even up until the mid 2000,s. If you think of this yrs classic crop how many will be top class 10 furlong horses next season?
July 9, 2024 at 22:17 #1701378Stop comparing horses to frankel. He was a freak but only in the sense that he was able to run at a pace where he took longer than other horses to get tired. For his style he never came close to breaking a track record or running a fast time🤔
July 9, 2024 at 23:42 #1701382If memory serves Frankel was only 0.69s off the course record in the Queen Anne on officially good to soft ground – but generally it is a lot harder to break track records in Europe taking into account the propensity for a Cotc to overwater and the natural undulations many courses here have…..there is also the fact that running fast times are not (and never have been) a major part of European racing.
Personally, I don’t think it was a great renewal of the race, even if the two withdrawn horses had both run. Injuries and a lack of depth of quality older horses I believe gives a big advantage to the 3 yr old class this season and being that AR (the top older horse) is in the same stable, I imagine they will be kept away from each other at all costs.
July 10, 2024 at 04:41 #1701385Are we now trying to question Frankels form Because he didn’t break a track record ….. Wow … If you want to believe COT is a superstar then go ahead but please don’t compare him to an actual superstar ..
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
July 10, 2024 at 08:29 #1701389It wasn’t a great renewal of the Eclipse but not only did COT not enjoy the going but I wasn’t sure it shown Ghostwriter or Dancing Gemini in good light either.
Dancing Gemini already dropping down in trip and grade despite the trainer acknowledging the going
Everything has to be an overreaction good or bad… things are either the best or worse

Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
July 10, 2024 at 11:16 #1701407Dancing Gemini’s poor performance can be put down to Roger Teal being in much worse form now than he was earlier in the season. Nowhere near the form that saw him unlucky in the French Guineas.
City Of Troy beat Ghostwriter a total of 2 lengths. Clive Cox is in better form now than he was earlier in the season and Ghostwriter probably improved a little from his Guineas run. When beaten 4 1/2 lengths by Notable Speech.
City Of Troy beat Al Riffa 1 length. Al Riffa had the soft ground he loves and ran at least as well as on his penultimate start. When beaten around 1/2 length in the French Group 1 race over the same 10f trip and soft ground.of the Ganay.
Value Is EverythingAugust 21, 2024 at 15:49 #1705225I was delighted with him today. I didn’t overly fancy his chances beforehand if I’m being honest, but I thought that was one of my favourite runs by him
August 21, 2024 at 21:14 #1705301He was very good. Having said that, as a terribly sentimental follower of racing I can’t get emotional about him the way I did with Sea the Stars and Frankel.
August 21, 2024 at 21:27 #1705303That is the Ballydoyle effect moehat I feel the same, like a corporate machine churning out horses. They have the power to throw enough darts and some will hit the mark.
The more I know the less I understand.
