Grrrrrrrrrrr
Today was supposed to be THE day … Some great racing but was all about one bet for me
Spent most of last season with Alan Berry gallantly carrying my ew money and chasing "black type" in Listed and Conditions races off a BHA mark of 95
Dropped into the Epsom dash today off 88 after a nice little pipe opener for new trainer Dandy Nicholls … conditions were ideal … five furlongs and expected to come fast and late off a strong pace.
The only worry was his often tardy start and a draw which Richard Hoiles suggested might lead to traffic problems.
He was right

"Reared leaving stalls and slowly into stride, well behind, ran on inside final furlong, finished well, not able to reach leaders"
Must have made up 10 – 12 lengths in the last furlong and was absolutely flying at the finish … 6th beaten 2 lengths.
I know it’s the chance you take with these sprints and big fields but it’s really annoying he’s now advertised the fact that he’s a winner waiting to happen and will go off at much skinnier odds next time … Perhaps they’ll run him out of his depth in a few more Listed races over the summer and then drop him into the Ayr Gold Cup

C’est la vie, I guess
June 6, 2010 at 16:41 #299123I backed him too BH. Really fancied him yesterday off that amrk but, as you say, lots can go wrong over the min trip in a big field.
June 7, 2010 at 12:19 #299257Runs again today at 9:15 in the "Heaven Lap Dancing Bar Handicap" at Pontefract.
Poppy’s Rose is well fancied but watch out for Fanning.
Backing two runners is the relentless pursuit of value. Backing each way is a shortcut to the poor house. Only 7% make a long term profit.

Fanning wins @ 7/1
Poppy’s Rose 4th @ 10/3fWhat a Quadrilla bet.
Fanning win and place
Poppy’s Rose lay win and lay place.Backing two runners is the relentless pursuit of value. Backing each way is a shortcut to the poor house. Only 7% make a long term profit.
