Team Mullins and all his owners are well into the festive Bushmills. Richy Rich, or whatever he’s called, suggests they give the peons a treat in January.

I know says Ricky. Let’s run some good horses against each other like used to happen! It will be like a pretend Cheltenham! Willie goes with it. The other owners go with it.

JP goes with it. Jessie visits for a Blastaway or two and says sure.

And a bonus! My Tent or Yours is miracously fully fit! It’s ( another) ‘force majure’ at Seven Barrows!

Twister goes with it, as long as The Moose can line up and plant at the start. Ha, ha say the others. No probs Nigel me old mucker.

So there we have the line up for January 2015,s AIG Grade 1 Hurdle over 2 miles,

    Faugheen
    Hurricane Fly
    Jezki
    Mad Moose
    My Tent or Yours
    The New One
    Un De Sceaux
    Vautour

What a mouth waterer that would be, and I’d be sure to get a hell of a price on The Fly!

Anyone else got one they would ask Santa for?

I thought my wish of world peace was ambitious!

A few years ago, 2011 it was, I was forced to miss the King George Chase because it was my friend’s birthday and I was made to attend a local football match. So I recorded the race and left my phone at home to avoid the result. Whilst in the bar at half time, some utter tool was telling a his completely disinterested friends that he’d backed Kauto Star to win the King George and he’d won. His friends knew nothing of either the King George or Kauto Star but this ****ing bell end had to give away the result all the same. Watching his win at home later that evening was the most bittersweet experience I have ever had to endure. It still haunts and pains me to this very day.

Anyway, tis the season of drunk drivers and even though I never saw that destroyer of Christmas again, I presume he’s still walking around so maybe Santa could do something about that.

If not then world peace will be fine.

Same here BH. I missed the race but as I was with friends who were not really interested in racing, I managed to avoid knowing the result. The neighbours found out Kauto had won at about 1 in the morning with me shouting at the telly

I have fond memories of a "spoiler" back in the 1980’s.

I was working on Derby Day 1985 and had taped the racing with a view to watching it later.

I worked in a small, specialised, laboratory at Dounreay and none of the people on my shift were racing fans. Radios and TV’s were banned from the labs and much of the site, so I felt confident I could avoid hearing the result during the shift.

Not long before my shift was due to end, the bottom door of the lab swung open and some tadger roared in:-

"Here, Cauthen’s horse p155ed the Derby, absolutely ****ing p155ed it"

With that the door closed and whoever that "Slip Anchor" was he had royally ruined my plans for the evening.

I would later learn that the man involved had left his second wife, simply waling out on her with no warning, the same as he had done to his first wife. In a new twist though, this time he ran off with another bloke. It’s a funny old world, may there be some peace in it this Christmas.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Puts me in mind of an incident a few years ago. The Cheltenham Festival of 2002. A workmate of mine used to tape the races and watched them at his leisure during the weekend. He told everyone that followed racing that they’re not to reveal any results (naturally the big race of the day [Champion Hurdle & Gold Cup] would be on the news that day) but others were still unknown to him. Anyway this cleaner who followed Jonjo O’Neill religiously blurted out the results following day (Wednesday), in spite of my workmate objections to being told any results, that Like a Butterfly shot in the first. My mate made a quick exit before the second race could be spurted out.

It’s not just in horseracing, I remember another incident were he told me he was watching World Of Sport for a boxing match which took place earlier, and Dicky Davies warned viewers to be ware of a left (or right hook) in the third by such a boxer. So the blow came in the round mentioned and ended the match.
