Faugheen will take all the beating here, his defeat in Ireland would of blown away the cobwebs and there should be no excuses here having won this race last year and with that run under his belt. Interestingly The New One avoided this race last year but this could be a tester to where they now stand with Mullins horse if they get smashed Nigel may look for alternative Cheltenham races? My Tent Or Yours is a horse I love but even at his best struggle against the fav with the way he races and being out for over a year would be a risk to think he could win first time out. Hargam and Irving could both fare well on the track but both fall short at the top level against top opposition and All Yours would need the lot to take the wrong course to stand a chance.

December 15, 2015 at 22:05 #1226017Well Irving is nearly as overrated as the New One so that bit of news makes no difference to the likely outcome of this race in truth
December 15, 2015 at 22:19 #1226018Maybe not but not many have taking him off the market according to oddschecker.
Paddy have and have shortened Faugheen to 2/5
others haven’t and you can still get 4/7, difference of £30 risk to win fortyBlackbeard to conquer the World

If he hasn’t had any new problems since the initial injury, it makes you wonder what they have (or have not) been doing with him if he still isn’t ready to run yet – I don’t envy BG for the ride he will be in for when he does finally get back on the track, as he is going to be a right handful for being off that long.December 20, 2015 at 01:33 #1226555No Tent at Christmas – http://www.racingpost.com/news/live.sd?event_id=13891024&category=0

BG has been spotted down at the train station in preparation for the date with MTOY’s

December 20, 2015 at 21:44 #1226626Old Guard at Christmas….really?
http://www.racingpost.com/news/live.sd?event_id=13918824&category=0
He scambled home in a hard race just over a week ago against (Peace&Co aside) a bunch of second division 2m hurdlers, so now they are thinking of taking on the reigning Champion Hurdler Faugheen and The New One at Kempton…………words fail me just like common sense has failed Old Guard’s connections.
December 20, 2015 at 22:02 #1226629Yes, the beating of Faugheen’s stablemate Sempre Medici by 1 length is hardly going to send shivers down the spine of Mullins. The Champion Hurdle is the main goal for Old Guard with connections pointing to Katchit as proof he can win it as a five year old. More chance our forum friend Daz bonking Kelly Brook.

December 21, 2015 at 19:42 #1226733I think The New One at 4/1 1/4 the odds each way is a bet to nothing. Can’t see any of the others beating him and if Faugheen is not the same horse as last season it could look a very good bet after the race.
December 23, 2015 at 14:37 #1226874STD on Old Guard rather than The New One, would he have had a choice or would Nicholls have pulled rank?

Suspect officially STD had the choice (clause in his contract for The New One) but realistically Sam is still on probation at Nicholls and probably doesn’t want/unwise to rock the boat. Although do think it would’ve been a difficult decision without loyalties being questioned.
Value Is EverythingDecember 24, 2015 at 00:28 #1226947Sign of a victory might be a bit of value. Had a pipe-opener at Wolves and loves flat tracks. This is his champion hurdle really as you can’t imagine him winning the big one at Cheltenham, I know he was put in his place in the same contest last year by Faugheen but I still think around 25-1 might be worth investing some pennies.
December 24, 2015 at 11:29 #1226977If old guard can come second in this race it doesn’t say a whole lot for the rest British hurdlers. A decent horse but beating Sempre Medici by one length is not enough form to warrant a place in the champion hurdle. The New One has already proven time and again the he is overrated. I expect faugheen to win on the bridle by as many lengths as Ruby wants to
December 24, 2015 at 11:50 #1226978What door mean exactly by “overrated”? He’s produced a string of decent performances and only a warped viewer would deny that he was exceptionally close to winning a ch.
I think the likely overrated horse is the one that didn’t go through with his effort last time, looked a little uncomfortable under pressure and shocked his supposedly on the ball connections by being defeated at long odds on
December 24, 2015 at 13:37 #1226993Clive by overrated I mean people still believe the horse is capable of winning a good grade one race. Last season he won 4 out of five races, beating some very average horses by only a length or two. The race he didn’t win was the champion hurdle where he was beaten easily by 4 top class horses. There is no denying that the new one is a good horse but no more than a consistent grade two winner. He prepared for the champion hurdle by winning a couple of grade twos and a class two race. Faugheen and hurricane fly prepared by winning grade one races. Yet people were still stupid enough to believe that the new one would suddenly get another gear from somewhere. In relation to your nonsense about faugheen being overrated he won the champion hurdle eased down, he destroyed the Christmas hurdle field. Soundly beat arctic fire again in punchestoen, and in his one defeat he was only back from a break, ridden off the pace and was closing all the way to the line to within half a length of another outstanding grade one horse in Nichols Canyon.
