….the best invention since the Pfizer vaccine.

Mind you, I’ve not quite finished the entire packet yet, so perhaps I should reserve judgement for the next five minutes or so?

Are you sure they are better than the half coated dark chocolate ones though

Dark chocolate is a bit too sophisticated for me.

I’ve tried the fully-milk chocolate coated ones and, while they were nice, I’m rating the choc chip ones 7lb higher.

Not tried them Ian, but you’ve got to try Bahlsen “Pick Up” biscuits.
Two fine layers of biscuit with Belgian chocolate in the middle.
One bite and a sip of tea and they melt beautifully in the mouth.
Don’t get the pack of mini bites, the full size bicky is better :good:

My friend Sue’s chocolate flapjacks are the best invention since the wheel

    No, you can’t have any

Thanks, BigG – I’m a coffee not a tea man, actually, but I will be looking for them in Waitrose tomorrow nevertheless.

Drone, such cruelty ought to be beneath you.

A man should never eulogise about a flapjack (particularly a chocolate one) that isn’t universally available – I’m sure that was laid down in law in the Magna Carta.

    Or ought to have been.

This warrants further investigation – I rate this possibly (depending on whether I obtain any and like them or not) your best posting of the year, Clive.

Fortnum and Mason’s Pistachio and Clotted Cream Biscuits are rather nice.

At £12.95p per packet they would need to be.

Nevertheless, they have joined Bahlsen “Pick Up” and Lottie Shaws Parkin on my biscuit bucket list.

I would add the chocolate flapjacks, but fear the only way to get any is to kidnap Drone and demand a case of said flapjacks off Sue as ransom.

But if Sue declines I am lumbered with having to feed now PoW Drone – who somewhat ironically is liable to demand a diet of chocolate flapjacks under Geneva Convention Rights.

    Caught in a temporal paradox!

If you could promise unlimited supplies of Huntley & Palmers Chocolate Olivers I’d request Sue not to bake a ransom (not bake a ransom – subjunctive mood?) and leave me to die happy pigging out, even incarcerated in Basingstoke if you really insist

Huntley & Palmers were based in Reading, just up the road from you; there’s a Palmer Park there just as there’s a Rowntree Park here in York. Victorian manufacturers of sweetmeats tended to be Quakers – for some reason – and hence had a great sense of civic duty and pride

Just up the road from me today would, depending on the road, probably be Market Weighton as I am at Beverley races.

    But I take your point.

Something passed onto me by my father was that a Chocolate Gold Grain goes very well with a hot whiskey. He discovered this from other riders after they’d go out on cold winter mornings.

Picture of Jacob's Chocolate Gold Grain biscuit packet

They have the perfect mixture of not being too sweet in the biscuit (grain from the biscuit, grain from the whiskey, perfect,) with the chocolate offsetting that, to go with the nip of the booze.

I’m not sure they’re available in Britain, but if you’re ever at an Irish winter meet, buy a pack in the local SuperValu and bring them with you to the pub for your hot whiskey after.

I like a hob nob too
the boys and girls on ward 7 use to enjoy a hob nob washed down with a pint of horlicks
My preference would be plain hob nob, followed by chocolate hob nob, I do find the chocolate on the chocolate hob nob can melt pretty quickly. I haven’t tried the choc chip hob nob but I’m imagining it is more like the plain one with bits of chocolate in it which could be a decent blend

My second packet of choc chip hob nobs was slightly disappointing tbh – like Sparks with This Town…. they might be a one-hit wonder.

I don’t drink (as in alcohol) but shall nevertheless be looking out for FiftyP’s selection.
