Worth calling up to cancel, often they’ll offer you a discount to stay.
I believe SSR and Eurosport are part of the basic package. Although I don’t know what’s happening with Eurosport because I think it’s supposed to be rolled into this new TNT which has replaced BT. As you know, it’s a good refuge from the BBC at times, snooker in particular.
August 1, 2023 at 12:33 #1657591A combo of comment on here and the BBC Cricket website, key clips plus daily highlights did me just nicely.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"August 1, 2023 at 12:51 #1657593I did try calling Sky a few months ago to see if they might do a discount. I was on the phone for what seemed like ages without speaking to a human being and in the end I gave up.
August 1, 2023 at 13:00 #1657597‘In a few words, please tell us the reason for your call today’.
In my head I’m thinking ‘eff off’ is only two words but I try it anyway.
August 1, 2023 at 16:35 #1657657Yes, I have the basic Virgin Media package and both Sky Sports Racing and Eurosport come with it, along with Freesports which seems to restrict itself to a heady mix of European club football, truck racing and log chopping
Hope Eurosport doesn’t go as I enjoy their cycling coverage – Tour de France, Giro d’Italia etc – though mainly for the splendid shots of the scenery, as the rules and regs of the races themselves are a mystery I’ve yet to fathom
Their snooker coverage is preferable to the beebs too

The BBC and its leftwing agenda when it comes to snooker… all those reds, and only one blue.
It disgusts me.
August 1, 2023 at 17:56 #1657694All taking place on a sea of green too, disgraceful.
August 4, 2023 at 19:27 #1658444I was going back through my 1st Ashes series I watched as a kid.
The 1989 one
There were 6 Test matches…Some on here may remember the 7 Test match ashes series Nathan
August 4, 2023 at 20:05 #1658448That would be the 1970/71 Test Ashes series in Australia. 7 Tests were played, although the last was a replacement for one that was washed out.
Not only were there so many matches, all of them comprised 8 ball overs. England won 2-0, despite the fact that not a single Australian batsman was given out LBW in any of the Tests.
August 4, 2023 at 20:27 #1658455First Test Match I remember was England v Australia in 1972.
England batted first and made 284 and I’ve always remembered that for some reason.
Australia made well over 300 in reply and eventually won the Test.

I didn’t know that CAS. This was obviously before neutral umpires came in not saying that the aussies were cheating
August 5, 2023 at 10:48 #1658563First Test Match I remember was England v Australia in 1972.
Was this the Bob Massie test in which he took 16 wickets on debut? I thought this record would last forever but the Indian spinner Hirwani achieved the same feat.
August 5, 2023 at 10:55 #1658564That was the 5th Test at The Oval: not a draw, remarkable

A series perhaps best remembered for Bob Massie’s 16 (8 & 8) wickets in the Lord’s Test. Very much a one-off as he only ever played a handful of Tests and retired from cricket altogether a year or so later
Also the series that saw Dennis Lillee’s debut in England
Earliest vivid memorie are of the 1971 3-match series against India and their splendid spin-bowling trio of Bedi, Chandrasekhar and Venkataraghavan; the last two, for understandable reasons, almost universally referred to as Chandra and Venkat
Prior to then have vaguish memories of Yorkshire’s John Hampshire making a century on his Test debut against the Windies in the late ’60s, but not much else
Memories are made of juxtapositions:
August 1971: family holiday at Bedruthan Steps in Cornwall, England v India at Old Trafford, and some newish late-night comedy show on telly called Monty Python’s Flying Circus
All our yesterdays, heigh-ho
The places we have known do not belong solely to the world of space in which we situate them for our greater convenience. They were only a thin slice among contiguous impressions which formed our life at that time; the memory of a certain image is but regret for a certain moment; and houses, roads, avenues are as fleeting, alas, as the years – M Proust
Right on Marcel, almost understood that snippet
August 5, 2023 at 10:59 #1658566Apologies Homer, crossed post
Anyway, your query is answered
August 5, 2023 at 11:16 #1658572That’s right, Homer. Only three umpires stood throughout the whole series, all from Australia. Neutral umpires were not introduced for over 20 years, prompted by Mike Gatting’s argument with Shakoor Rana on another England overseas tour.
The England team were very unhappy with the umpiring on the 1970/71 tour. John Snow, in particular, had several arguments with one of the umpires.
