Pulled up during the Swinton Hurdle at Haydock Park today, having suffered a life ending injury.
Always sad to lose a horse, but especially when it’s one like Cheltenian which has been around for a number of years; he was 10.
Remember seeing him have his second run under rules, in a bumper at Kempton in February 2011; he beat Montbazon that day.
RIP Cheltenian

May 8, 2016 at 06:50 #1245049Terribly sad to see this happen to a horse I’ve watched for a long time. Looked like he hit the hurdle and his back leg went. I hope they got to him quickly.
May 10, 2016 at 22:59 #1245312I’ve haven’t come to this section in the last couple of weeks and sorry to see Cheltenian’s name here.
I was watching his last race on TV when they said he was being attended to down the course and it made me feel very sad that he had come back to race after such a bad run at Cheltenham.
He was such an grand old horse and will be sadly missed.
RIP Cheltenian sorry you never got to have the retirement that you so dearly deserved.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out... - AuthorPosts
