Nice to see all the usual debate about the ground, the annual decrying of the quality of the championship races, but the standout Cheltenham tradition finally arrived today in the Racing Post.
Headline, page 5 –
"Pipe still to decide …."
Oh yes, the old ones are still the best!

March 8, 2007 at 13:48 #43460LOL!
Carvill’s Hill WAS robbed, though.
March 8, 2007 at 18:44 #43463It’d be nice to see some Irish winners not draped in the Tricolour, poor horses. Don’t the Irish realise how boring they are with it?
March 8, 2007 at 18:48 #43464Loved the quote from Paul Nicholls the other day.
Apparently he phoned Martin Pipe 5 minutes before declaration time to find out if he was running a certain horse in a big handicap. Weasel faces reply – "I haven’t decided yet" A sad loss to the sport – Not!
March 8, 2007 at 20:12 #43466"Tweed jackets are popular with the men, along with garish ties and socks, coloured shirts with white collars, coats with velvet lapels, yellow cords – all topped off with a flat cap or a trilby".[BBC report]
"The Trilby Hat is Spring 07’s must have. Every guy wants to be seen in one".
[fashion web site].
lol…do you ?
…not the most flattering of apparel for a gent, in my opinion.
Well I doubth if the horses are too bothered. Who knows…they might be quite nationalistic types.
But whats with this boring~??? What more do you want? Perhaps we could get a troupe of riverdance girls or an Oilean piper to escort them in, although I daresay the horses might rightly put the foot…sorry, hoof down with regard to that.
Boring?? The youth of today are so hard to please.

To be fair though if the English turned up at the punchestown festival draped in St Georges crosses singing swing low sweet chariot, how would the irish take it?!

March 9, 2007 at 11:42 #43482Matron, the queues for transport to the helipad, 5 mins warm up time for chopper, delays for take off slot, low cloud or other weather conditions putting take off in jeopardy.
