Drove through the Cotswolds this morning – Stow looked like a Christmas card, with all the trees white with snow/frost. Plenty of snow visible on the hilltops all around the area. Plenty of rain as well judging by the puddles in the lower lying areas.
March 7, 2023 at 10:14 #1638052I’m glad they’ve stopped watering, but the current weather IMO needs to be viewed in the historical context of the local water table since last summer.
If the local water table is still low, unless the wet weather is continuous the next week it might have drained away by next Tuesday.
The forecast suggests the wet weather may well continue, but I wouldn’t be taking it for granted the Cheltenham Festival will be starting with appreciable give just yet.

March 7, 2023 at 16:05 #1638077Think it could well be on the dead side and maybe closer to soft especially with forecast being quite cold before the weekend which won’t help the ground dry out much, especially if the 5-10mm forecast for Thursday is accurate.
March 7, 2023 at 19:44 #1638102I hope I don’t get the weather I had on the Wednesday last year.
It was the worst day of the year, ever…Ironically Shishkin was my jackpot horse that day
this year he is the last leg of a 12 fold with 8 results already in and possibly if the other 3 win be my jackpot horse again after not touching him for 11 monthsBlackbeard to conquer the World
March 7, 2023 at 21:43 #1638121Have to admit the latest forecast I’ve seen is bringing me round to LD73’s way of thinking – looks like significant rain and snow could hit Cheltenham which has had 29mm in the last 24 hours with 46mm expected the next 24 hours.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 8, 2023 at 22:09 #1638207The clerk said earlier the racecourse has avoided it though Ian. They’ve only had light drizzle and no snow. But are expecting 10-15mm tomorrow.
I’m absolutely desperate they get a biblical amount. Henderson was on a unibet preview earlier tonight and said he’s still undecided about the destination of Marie’s rock but De Boinvile openly stated he thinks it would be nice for the stable (not necessarily the horse though)to run her in the stayers.
Let’s hope for rain so that the owners pull rank and insist she runs in the right race for the horse!
March 8, 2023 at 22:23 #1638210I’m currently knee deep in local water table readings and going stick measurements – we shall see what the next few days bring!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"March 10, 2023 at 00:56 #1638325Surely, surely now the meeting starts on soft! And that’s being generous if they get the top end of forecasts!
Marie’s Rock to defend her crown and put to bed this stayers nonsense until Aintree!
If Blazing Khal gets the green light tomorrow then my girls surely running in the mares!
March 10, 2023 at 01:36 #1638326Looks like it will depend on what they get currently and Sunday night into Monday….but soft looks most likely……cue trainers bemoaning the fact that their horse could do with better ground
March 10, 2023 at 05:58 #1638328Atm i am thinking if you’re picks want some ease in the ground Tuesday or Wednesday you’ll be catered for, and if you’re picks want some ease in the ground Thursday or Friday you’re out of luck.
March 10, 2023 at 10:30 #1638337Mudlarks will be in their element…
March 10, 2023 at 14:19 #1638353They were due between 5-10mm last night and got 12mmm, due another 5-8mm Sunday night and showers on and off through the week…..it will likely be soft all round and proper winter ground which is kind of ironic giving that the ground was much quicker during the actual winter months.
The best of the ground will be on the Tuesday but once they have opened it up after that and get any significant rain on it, it could get quite testing if the forecasts are correct.
Conditions will suit Energumene who has most of his form on soft or heavy…….conditions could also put a new spin on the Gold Cup as the more thorough stayers will likely now come more into play the softer the ground gets.
March 11, 2023 at 17:29 #1638585Soft all week wouldn’t surprise now as rain is forecast Thursday as well.
March 11, 2023 at 19:47 #1638599Funny thing is though last year we had all that rain on the Wednesday, enough to flood the planet yet when I had dried myself out two minutes before the first race on the Thursday it was nearer good ground.

March 11, 2023 at 19:52 #1638600100% Nathan – Desperate on the Old Course on Wednesday, A Plus Tard smashing standard on the New Course on Friday.
I wouldn’t take anything for granted just yet.
