The Gold Cup is on it’s way back to Ireland next year! We have a not-so-secret Weapon!
March 31, 2010 at 11:46 #286693Haha, i like that
I backed it in the Albert Bartlett 09 and RSA 10. I should back it really
Good Luck anyway mate

Yeah, An Siorrac!

Yeah, An Siorrac!
I’ll second that….. An Siorrac is some horse, word is he’s fully recovered from his setback which was caught in time and he was forward enough to be considered for a run this season but will, in fact, be out in October. Enda Boger says he’s the best horse he’s ever been associated with and of course his Elegant Lord beat the following years Gold Cup winner when winning The Foxhunters.
March 31, 2010 at 23:41 #286840Presumably Dermot Cox will want him trained for the Irish Daily Star race at Punchestown in October?
If he lives up to the hype we could have a decent staying chase division next season – Pandorama, Joncol, An Siorrac, Cooldine, Weapons Amnesty

That seems totally logical and is the sort of route I’d like to see him take en route to The Cheltenham Festival. I believe that would rule out a crack at The Foxhunters which I did wonder if he’d go for in 2011 knowing Enda’s love affair with the race.
I don’t think the winner of a grade 3 open chase would be eligible for that season’s hunter chases, perhaps graysonscolumn would confirm?April 2, 2010 at 07:36 #287111AnonymousInactive- Total Posts 17716
Here’s some phrases you can use next season.
"I’m backing Imperial Commander but if Kauto Star jumps he’ll win"
" I wish to hell I had taken 5/1 ew like Fist did "
" He can’t possibly win it back again. Can he? "
Can’t believe you guys are writing off the best chaser to grace a racecourse in 40 years so easily.
Don’t you now he coined the phrase big Arnie uses in his movies?

Couldn’t agree more Fisty!
It wasn’t long ago that the superlatives were flying around after his fourth King George.
April 2, 2010 at 13:01 #287149Its a case of horses for courses though isn’t it? Kempton is clearly his track, he’s never produced anything like that in a Gold Cup.

Jesus Christ sometimes I reaslly wonder if some people ever open their eyes.
That statement may hold some truth Peruvian if it wasn’t for the fact that probably his best performance came at Cheltenham.

April 4, 2010 at 08:49 #287419If you are referring to his beating of a "wrong" Denman, i can’t for the life of me see how that is better than his Kempton wins, but each to their own.
I disagree with your opinion, but wouldn’t be as arrogant as to suggest you haven’t "opened your eyes". Why are people becoming so rude on here nowadays?

Very sorry if I came across as rude Peruvian! Maybe got a bit carried away (as I often do when people say Kauto’s Cheltenham form isn’t up to much )
Everybody has their own opinions, you are right. Apologies once more if I have offended you.
April 5, 2010 at 09:47 #287610I dont think its not up to much, winning a couple of Gold Cups is clearly smart enough! Just personally think he’s a better horse at Kempton than Cheltenham.
April 8, 2010 at 21:47 #288722Still a big fan of Somersby, but I have doubts about him staying an extended three miles-two around Cheltenham after his performance today.

I think Somersby will be a much better horse over further.
In a slowly run race around this sharp track, he was simply outsped by the nippier Mad Max, and wasn’t persevered with after clouting the last. The RP reports him as"weakened"
, but that was far from the case imo, and its certain that none of the rest of the field made any ground on him. Still say he’d be better made more use of over these short trips, but that isn’t how Henrietta trains her young horses, and I well recall Best Mate being turned over by Florida Pearl (01 King George) for much the same reasons, a result he comprehensively reversed the following season.
Far from writing him off, I think Somersby has run 2 absolute blinders in circumstances nowhere near his optimum, and you won’t see his true colours over anything less than a stiff 3m.
In my view, he remains a very serious contender for the next few Gold Cups.April 15, 2010 at 03:25 #290353Wow! I’ve never heard of this before and I think they’re awesome!
