Great performance from KS and Denman showed some real guts. Today was Kauto’s day as last years was Denman’s. Roll on next year for the decider and lets hope they both get there in peak fitness. If they do and Denman can set a similar pace as last year, it is going to be very, very interesting!

I’m really not one for gloating….(does that count?)

Seriously, I am SO happy for the horse – he may finally get the unequivocal glory he deserves.

He has to be one of the all-time greats.

It’s not just his Gold Cups/King George’s ..it’s his Tingle Creeks and Ascot chase. What other horse is going to win at such a variety of distances?

One Man was awesome, but he couldn’t finish a Gold Cup.

The beauty of racing is no matter how much "proof" we have with each race, there are always more questions to answer.

    Sometimes the same old questions….

    1. Would a fully-fit Denman beat KS? (I think he would, he’s done it before)

    2. Will KS ever be 2/1 again for any race? (maybe :?)

    3. Do you think KS would, assuming he jumped round, win the Grand National with top weight? (I think, if pushed, I’d say "yes")

    4. Do the Cooldine fans who witnessed today’s Gold Cup still think Cooldine could dethrone the champ?

    What a superstar KS!

And a superb training performance to get Denman to come back 3 weeks after looking a shadow of his former self.

I tell you what Zippy I don’t think Denman could possibly beat kauto Star at his best but what could beat him is the going. We have had some real wet Cheltenhams in the past and were lucky to get away with it this time.

Kauto has this unreal burst of aceleration and I dion’t think Denman would get him off the bit if he set of like a bat out of hell and quickened up.

However Denman can go on any ground and if it were to turn up heavy his relentless gallop would obviously take a lot of the sting out of Kauto’s tail. Then of course he could possibly beat him. I think he would struggle on soft or better.

What I discovered earlier that Denman was an amazing 8/1 for next year race and Kauto was a miserbale 5/2.So I backed them both which I think is buying money. From a finacial point of view I would like Denman to win but my heart is with Kauto.

Cooldine was very impressive. However the leader cut his own throat and What a Friend was not fancied one bit. When I see a PN horse drift like that who is being touted as a future Gold Cup horse then something isn’t right. So I am slightly suspicious about how good the form is.

He looks the part but many RSA winners do and many never even see a Gold Cup or get totally outclassed.Did anyone see my pal GWilson :) Never mind he’s probably helping Jonjo find Alberta’s Run

In anormal year I would say Cooldine would be one to consider but against these 2 nothing in training matters IMO.

Having backed Denman Ante-post for the 07 Sun alliance ch at 7/1 and the 08 Gold Cup at 10/1 i could be bias to the Champ! But i am of the opinion that Kauto Star ran below his best in Denmans Gold Cup and believe that on Good/soft ground Kauto will seek his revenge on his stable companion! Neither appeal as Ante-post propositions as i believe in the
Young pretender Albertas Run at 33/1 to be placed and i know his season will be geared to getting to the Gold Cup! Thats how highly he is regarded
    by connections!

FIST, i am licking my wounds, but you only have to read what i wrote on Nov 9th last year to realise you are not the only one who knows his stuff! i was looking for a horse who could lay it down to the 2 champs and i failed
to find one, i am happy with the result as it proves the 3 best chasers in the country finished in the correct order! for the record i backed Exotic at
65 to win and 14 to place so still made a profit! I wont give up on Albertas
run and wouldn"t be surprised to see him win the Betfred at Sandown!

Surely the question should be "Would a fully-fit Denman beat

    a fully fit KS?

    "

To which the answer is, "No, of course not".

Have you been reading my emails? Now you are talking!. If he gets good ground at Sandown yes he would have a great chance. Long way away though and a lot can go wrong. Like PN running Kauto Star

Kauto is a very special horse – but Denman was magnificent today – must surely have won with any sort of preperation?

    From the RP site –

"No fewer than 24 horses had attempted to regain the crown a total of 34 times but it was Kauto Star who finally broke the record."

All these years to have a horse to regain the GC, and then it’s done twice in two years ? Bet I’m not the only one who has that as a ‘doubtful’.

Can’t see the logic in that PC, Kauto’s Gold Cup form is better than Denman’s.

Monksfield – i didn’t make any reference to next years race.

Mark – that can only be your interpretation surely? Or are you saying Denman ran to a similar mark as he did last year?

Kauto’s proved he’s the best horse on PROPER racing ground, and that’s the true yardstick. Denman is the king the softer it gets. They both ran fantastic races today.

i find most of these posts unbelievable that you are getting so carried away with what kauto done today. he only had 1 horse to beat that was not 100%. kauto has had months to prepare for this whilst denman had less than 5 weeks from his last run which was just a pipe opener for him, as he proved today he got beat by 50 lenghts of madison last time, this time denman was alot fitter where was madison. as for the rest of them they are nothing compared to the first 2 so in that respect kauto only had denman who only had a couple of months to get ready for today to beat. everything was in his favour today so stop getting carried away saying he is the best horse ever. hopefully they will meet again and denman 100% fit then he will shut all you doubters up. denman is still the best just not had his preperation in time. i am not affraid to admit the truth so lets hear what you have to say, if you are not going to talk sense or know what your talking about then keep your gob shut.

Calm down – but unbelievably you’re rant holds a key point.

Paul Nicholls, Harry Findlay, and Ruby Walsh all admitted openly after todays race that two weeks ago Denman looked like being pulled out of todays race.

Given that, he’s ran a huge race.

Whats proper racing ground exactly?? And how soft was it last year???

I think Kauto star is one of the best Ive seen but I have to say, the second horse today ran some race given the problems he has had. Two very special animals and there is some justice that there is some doubt still as to which is actually the better.

I’d love to be around in 30 years time and read the books written about this time; or even look at it in a more detached way so that I can see it more clearly….
