Yep.
I’m worried about Cerium especially. An irregular heartbeat was the excuse for him when last seen!
It may have been a minor thing like Denman’s, but 4 or 5 hopeless tasks at Cheltenham, Aintree and Ayr will test him.
January 20, 2009 at 04:22 #205258I’ve been having a look at this race and without the top two i’m really quite keen on Nozic who I don’t think we’ve seen the best of. He has an entry and I hope he lets him run and gives Skelton the ride.
January 20, 2009 at 04:24 #205261I had it on good authority that MONEY TRIX was being aimed at the Gold Cup but i cant seem to find a price for him!!!
Anybody see a price for him or is the horse injured?
Thankyou
January 20, 2009 at 05:14 #205269Took a heavy fall at Newbury GhostOfTheFellow – think he’s ok but would be surprised if he’s being aimed at anything this side of next Autumn.
Gutted we won’t be seeing the horse who can whoop Master Minded in the Gold Cup. Maybe 6 is too young and they’ll try for next year, would be great to see him do a Grand Steeplechase, Jousselin, Gold Cup treble
January 20, 2009 at 16:12 #205314I’m pretty sure he’s back in training and is due out in Feb. There was a profile of Davy Condon in Sunday’s post and I think he alluded to it there. I will check at home later.
January 20, 2009 at 22:46 #205412Thanks for that…..Ive watched this horse from day one and looks the ”Real Deal” cant remember who but i was speaking to somebody at Perth last season and MONEY TRIX came up in coversation.
The fall he had looked a bit nasty, just hope he has forgotten about it!!!!
If we have to wait another year i can wait.
January 21, 2009 at 00:15 #205435Just checked, it was Nicky Richards and Money Trix is due to reappear in a handicap at Ayr on 7th February. He was fine after the fall.
January 21, 2009 at 00:26 #205441Thats brilliant news -cant wait to see how hes come back from the fall
Please watch this horse dont rule him out because he isnt from one of the big yards down south.
Very classy looking horse
January 21, 2009 at 00:54 #205446Initially the plan was to run him in the Gold Cup then he had that awful fall.
I had a bet on him myslef at 50/1 ewAfter Ayr is he comes out of it ok they plan to run him at Kelso so I guess there will be no Gold Cup this year
January 21, 2009 at 05:20 #205493Pity about your bet..but hes young enough and its about time we had another ”Great Northern Hope”
What Kelso race is he going for????
January 21, 2009 at 20:53 #205606Paul Barber insists that Denman is a better horse now than he was last year and has been working excellently at home.
Let’s hope so.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
January 25, 2009 at 01:28 #206334Does anyone have a weather forecast for the next six weeks?
Very little has been written about today’s race. Maybe you’re all out on the sauce.
Is it just because today’s finish was between Halcon Generlardais and Joe Lively, that the race has been dismissed as irrelevant for the Gold Cup?
When I last looked a couple of hours ago, Joe Lively was still in the 40s, bigger than Star De Mohaison.
If today’s race had been won by Star De Mohaison, Nozic or Tidal Bay, people would have been saying we have a serious Gold Cup contender.
I find it hard to believe that KS didn’t have a hard race in the KG, when the horses behind him did. It reminds me of the comment that Desmond Lynam made once that top class athletes hurt as much as the rest of us, they just go faster while they’re doing it.
I’d also like to see Denman take on Monet’s Garden and Racing Demon et al over 2 and a half miles, and see how much puff he had left afterwards, and how much spirit.
Going back further to the old Old Guard, I’m always surprised in the Arkle debate about people mentioning in an aside that Mill House was their favourite horse. Was it an Ireland versus Britain thing?Enough of that.
Time for the New Guard.
I’ve come to the conclusion that the Gold Cup will be fought out by Barbers Shop and Imperial Commander. They only have to make the improvement that other horses have made in the past.
They are both at home at Cheltenham.
Barbers Shop will benefit from the distance.
Imperial Commander has got hammered each of the three occasions he attenpted 3+miles when younger, but that was when he was younger. If it comes up mud, Joe Lively will win. I know he’s being aimed at the GN, but he might as well use the Gold Cup as his prep race as any other.
Sic Transit Gloria MundiOkay, I was being a bit iconaclastic when I wrote that, because I was sick that the only 3 horses being mentioned for the Gold Cup were Denman, Kauto Star and Arkle, but I’m feeling better that one of my ridiculous statements isn’t looking so ridiculous.
January 25, 2009 at 01:33 #206336Gordon, help me out here.
If it came up Soft, would you rather be on Albertas Run at 21, or Joe Lively at 44?
January 25, 2009 at 01:56 #206342I’d rather have all my money on Joe Lively to place. Neither of them are good enough to win unless it was completely bottomless and the top three in the betting have off days.
January 25, 2009 at 02:24 #206346One can’t have a place bet near the raceday, because everyone will clock-on, so I suppose the thing to do is to have the place bet in the next 3-4 weeks, and effectively have a bet on the weather?
January 25, 2009 at 02:41 #206350It’s simply so hard to get away from the big two. Joe lively game and entertaining today but in a race where conditions haven’t suited many in behind and they’ve plenty to prove i can’t take it seriously as a race worthy of winning a gold cup. Wouldn’t even consider placing him as I know I’d be backing him to finish third.
January 25, 2009 at 02:51 #206352Okay, if its Good ground, he’s nowhere.
What do people think are the likely placings on Soft to Very Soft ground?
