Arkle; Al Ferof 12/1 10pts
Champion Hurdle; Zarkandar 12/1 3ptsRSA; Hidden Cyclone 25/1 6pts
Queen Mum; Sizing Europe 14/1 5pts, plus various others. My most confident Festival selection.Jewson; Solix 14/1 6pts
Ryanair; Rubi Light 25/1 4pts
World Hurdle; Big Buck’s & Sizing Europe, 11/1 10ptsAlbert Bartlett; Fingal Bay 10/1 5pts
Gold Cup; Captain Chris 18/1-20/1 6ptsI like Baby Run in the Foxhunter’s & Sizing Australia in the X-Country too. Not silly enough to back them yet though.
I’m going to start looking at the Supreme in the next couple of weeks. Don’t like any of the market principals. Neptune looks far too open atm. Never look at the Triumph until February.
Couple of updates.
Had a further 4pts on Solix at 12/1
Hurricane Fly 20pts 2/1 NRNB
Also made a mistake, actually have 11pts on Al Ferof, not 10.As it stands I am absolutely delighted with my portfolio. Every single selection is currently shorter in price for their market. I’m worried about Fingal Bay going for the Neptune, but I think they’ll see sense once the other contenders for that race start showing themselves and they realise that they won’t have enough pace.
January 21, 2012 at 20:02 #387721Just cannot resist having more on Al Ferof, a novice chaser who’s probably run to 160 on his 3rd chase start and Arkle prep.
Al Ferof 7/1 & Zarkandar 7/1 NRNB 1pt double (63/1)
Al Ferof 7/1 & Hurricane Fly 13/8 NRNB 3pts double (20/1)Risky doubling them up I know, but the Champion Hurdle was already a 2-horse race for me. Even more so now.
January 21, 2012 at 21:50 #387731Started attacking the festival the last few weeks and am beginning to build a pleasing enough portfolio.
Supreme: Colour Squadron 20-1 2pts win – Think the novicey issue of hanging his chance away will not occur again and he is still the English hope for me.
Cash and Go – 16-1 2 pts, liked his performance last time and think he should be 10-1 or shorter.
Arkle – Al Ferof 2 pts 8-1 4 pts 7-1
CH: Spirit Son 8-1 5pts NRNB
Rock on Ruby 14-1 2 points and W/O Hurricane 2 pts 8-1
Been hugely inpressed with him and the handicap performance in november was one of the best performances ive seen this year the loss the binocular was a glitch and the track and race suited binocular, the proven neptune stamina rock and ruby has will stand him in good stead, the new hardy eustace.Neptune: Make your Mark 2pts 14-1, Monksland 2pts 18-1.
Noel Meade has a poor record but hi has won the neptune recently and Monksland should be shorter.RSA – Bobs Worth 5 points 7-1, Grands crus is class but to short for me. I think bobs will improve a lot for the course and tries hard.
Last Instalment 12-1 2 ptsBumper – Champagne fever – 20/1 2 points interest bet but he ran well on his debut against some more experienced rivals.
Jewson – Sir Des Champs, 2 pts 12-1 time he clocked after left in the lead on last run was decent.
Ryanair – Medermit 18-1 2pts ew, ran a couple of solid races at the course and could well place or nick a wide open race.
Will be including noble prince too who i think is a seriously decent chance and is excellent on good ground.
Fred Winter – Kazlian 4pts 20-1, hope he goes for it and not the triumph, fits the bill for me and pipe has great record in the race.
Albert Bartlett – 3 pts fingal bay 6-1, should be going for this race and not neptune in my opinion. looks doubtful now.
Sea of thunder 14-1 3 points. too big after his display.
GC- Considering a large long run bet, jumps a bit dodge but gets round and he has comprehensively beaten everything this year except the king. I have to go for long run over kauto who will surely reverse at the course where Kauto has sometimes struggled to maintain form.
Foxhunters – 14-1 3 points, like the horse a lot and has festival form.
Looking forward to slamming into the handicaps which i think offer some excellent opportunities. Also want to get a bit on sizing europe, big zeb is held by him and the rest can’t cut it. finians is ok but can’t have him against sizing at all. strong run 2m festival suits SE to the ground. 5-2? should 6-4.

What do people think so far?
January 22, 2012 at 01:14 #387748Just cannot resist having more on Al Ferof, a novice chaser who’s probably run to 160 on his 3rd chase start and Arkle prep.
And just done the following;
11 or fewer runners in the Champion Hurdle 10/3 & Hurricane Fly 7/4 10pts double
I think that Champion Hurdle total runners bet with William Hill is really a fantastic price.
Hurricane Fly, Grandouet, Zarkandar, Binocular, Unaccompanied, Rock on Ruby, Oscar’s Well, Thousand Stars, Overturn and Brampour are all definite runners. That’s 10. Not allowing for injuries or changing of targets, obviously. Brampour’s getting a very big price on the machine and if Unaccompanied is beaten easily enough next week by Hurricane Fly or whoever else, they may decide to reroute her to the Mares’ Hurdle.
There’s a very big question mark over Spirit Son and now a small possibility that Oscar Whisky could run instead. In any case, that’ll only be 1 runner, because they won’t both run and it’s still very likely Oscar Whisky runs in the World Hurdle.
Mikael d’Haguenet, So Young and Zaidpour are all possibles for Mullins, but they’ve all been campaigned over much further than 2 miles and are unlikely runners I think.
Zaidpour’s run over 2m6 and 2m4 this season, Mullins says So Young will run over 2m5 in February and that his best trip is over further than 2m. Mikael d’Haguenet ran over 3m at Punchestown in May and over 3m in the RSA in March, so doubtful he’ll run him over 2m, especially with his 2 stablemates in there. More likely that he’ll run them all in the World Hurdle I’d have thought (hoped).
There are also a couple of other possibles such as Celestial Halo (missed Cheltenham last year), Smad Place (Alan King mentioned only the World Hurdle today and not the Champion), Clerk’s Choice, etc.
Not by any means saying it’s a dead cert, but at 10/3 it’s extremely overpriced. I’d have made it 6/4, as well as 12 or 13 runners at 6/4, 14 or 15 at 4/1 & 16+ at 8s.
January 22, 2012 at 14:20 #387809And another 3pts on Captain Chris for the Gold Cup at 16/1.

January 23, 2012 at 17:02 #387966Gosh, we’re listing acccumulators as well. Ok then.
Stand to win 1000 points if Hurricane Fly or Zarkandar win the Champion Hurdle, Sizing Europe and Big Buck’s win the Queen Mum and World Hurdle and Long Run or Captain Chris win the Gold Cup. I’ve laid out 22 points for that.
I’ve got just over 2 points on Al Ferof for the Arkle plus the above situations, which would return between 2100 and 2800 points.
And I’ve also got 2 points on Peddler’s Cross for the Arkle, Hurricane Fly, Sizing Europe, Big Buck’s and Long Run, which would return 750 points.
I’m getting increasingly concerned about Sizing Europe’s ever contracting price, as I really hate the thought of 3 sub-2/1 (and potentially 4 with Long Run, although doubtful) shots being in my 4-folds for the Cheltenham Festival.
Sea Pigeon, you have some lovely bets there. 5/1 Hurricane Fly? When did you get that?
January 23, 2012 at 19:23 #388001Hurricane Fly was 5/1 with bet365 immediately after he won the champion hurdle, wish I’d put a huge wodge on lol
January 23, 2012 at 19:26 #388003Wow. Sporting Bet were 8s on Sizing Europe straight after the QM but I closed my account with them 4 months earlier

Sir Des Champs @ 122 – JewsonJanuary 25, 2012 at 03:45 #388166RSA – Hidden Cyclone 25/1 2pts more
January 26, 2012 at 01:17 #388287Me backing a couple of Nicky’s will come as no surprise.

Oscar Whisky 7/4 without Big Bucks. Amazing price when you consider which ones are very unlikely to run.
Riverside Theatre 10/1 will be out shortly and when he wins that price will be halved.
